Biking
Asin on a pedal bike.
Thinking of getting a dirt/jump bike, been looking around and the Kona Stinky looks like the bike for me.

Anyone into bikes here? is the Stinky a good bike?
For the price of it i'd expect it to be good, £1300+

Re: Biking
I've known two people that had those, not sure if it was the exact same but im pretty sure it was the stinky. They seemed satisfied with them, and it looked like a nice bike.

Re: Biking
I'm also looking at the GT Tempest 1.0, it costs around £500 and i'm leaning towards this one purely because of the price, spending £1300 on my first 'decent' bike would be silly even though i do like that Kona one.

Re: Biking
Do you want full suspension? Personally I love it, I'm not super hardcore but it's fucking great. The second one you posted was a hardtail, so I wasn't sure what you were going for...
My bike was only $525 [but I got $150 off] with full suspension, disc brakes, and it's fairly light. I've had it for two years of light riding with no problems, though the brake pads could use replacing. It's a relatively cheap beginner bike [I think it's a GM canyon if you want to look it up], and it's worked out great for me.

Re: Biking
So you are looking for a trail bike to pedal down single track and hit the occasional jump, or do you want a free ride machine to take downhill off huge drops?
I used to ride a Kona cinder cone, for the price it was alright. I now have a Specialized Stumpjumper comp and I love it. The Stumpjumper is a very competent all around bike, but I wouldn't want it to take big hits regularly. I have rode the Specialized Enduro and love it, it's a step up in durability from mine.
Yes I am biased towards Specialized, but having rode a few of their bikes I can say that I prefer them. Shop around and don't buy anything unless they will let you take it for a test ride.

Re: Biking
I believe the stinky is a dh bike, is it not? You could probably save some money on a non dual suspension bike.

Re: Biking
I love mountain biking. The plants, trees, wet soil, fresh air, the sky, the speed.
I bought myself a Cannondale Prophet, with a Fox Float R rear shock and a Cannondale Max Lefty front shock. Sram Sr9 transmission and Avid disc brakes.
The $ 1,900 USD is well worth it. It feels like you are floating over the ground, although it doenst run as fast as the Cannondale Jekyll, Rush or the F series.
My previous bike was a Cannondale F300, the now F5, but with raised nose and shortened down bent rear, which made the pedaling more efficient, letting you gather up speed more easily, and making the bike much swifter and easier to controll, but I had that bike from 5 years ago and it would just be too small for me now.
Still, that old bike (the F300) resisted some good punisment, through a lot of crashes, falls and jumps and never had a problem. The only thing it has is a scratch on the paint. And it was fast as hell. I rode it up to over 90 km/h once. And crashed, but nothing happened to me or the bike, luckily.

Re: Biking
OP you are a complete imbecile. With your two options being a crappy hardail, and a downhill bike; in case you hadn't realized.
Go with the crappy kona.
