So after going through hell to get iTunes installed on my laptop (inspiron 1526/Windows Vista) i discovered that when i plug my iPod into my USB port that my computer/iTunes doesn't recognize it.
anyone have this problem and know how to fix it?

Does that USB port work for other things?
Do you have another USB port to try it with?
Have you tried it on other USB ports?
Have you tried it on another computer, just for kicks?

yes. it works with my cell phone.

ive tried with all four of the USB ports on my laptop and none have worked for it.

i plugged it into one of these and it charged it so i know its not the cord.

Latest iTunes Software?

So, we've pretty much eliminated the USB cord and port.

iPod:
The battery is fully charged?
Turned it off and on?

iTunes:
Latest version?
Any plugins/mods?
Antivirus software?

I honestly can't think of anything else to suggest.

the battery was charged each time i tried and i have restarted my iPod multiple times.
iTunes is version 7.6.2.9 and thats the latest version as far as i know. there are no mods or anything on iTunes itself but my iPod is jailbroken. theres also no anti-virus sofware on my computer.

ive also tried everything in the support area. ill try calling Tech Support tomorrow.
are the apple tech support guys all in India like dell?

i have decided against calling apple since my ipod is jailbroken so i dont think they will help me.

If it works on a friend's computer, try restoring it on there. Then try plugging it into your computer. If it works, everything is a-OK. If it doesn't, then you can call Apple tech support, because all evidence of the jailbreak is gone.

Oh, and their tech support people are all in the US, and are typically excellent.
