Default Installing Linux on a laptop.

So, basically I'm having exponential problems with getting drivers on my laptop when running Windows. None of them seem to work, especially sound drivers.

If I install a Linux OS (let's say Ubuntu or Fedora) onto it. Will I have a similar experience with drivers? Or will it be better or worse?

The laptop is an Asus, and the graphics card is an NVIDIA if it makes any difference.

Is this an EEEEEEEpc or whatever?

In that case, I know there are drivers for everything. Otherwise, I can't guarantee anything, but it'll probably be supported.

What did the laptop come with? XP, Vista? If it came (from the manufacturer) with windows, the drivers should work.

The good news is that linux has some of the best drive support out there. Most of the common and highly-supported distros will have drivers form all the 6+ month old hardware.

Try Ubuntu, Fedora, or any others that are recommended around here. That or google your hardware till you find one that supports it.

My Toshiba laptop came with Vista on it, and it ran Ubuntu 7.10 perfectly.
