Me and my friend came to the same conclusion one time tripping acid in the woods, except in reverse.

Instead of us being much like a fungi or bacteria, bacteria and fungi were much like us, and possibly had their own state of consciousness similiar to ours that we had no way of knowing about (or that our survival instincts and ability to survive is what truly made us alive, not the modern day acceptance of 'souls' and greater consciousness). Hard to explain, and certainly not the 'theory of the universe'... but definately alot of fun when you think about it.

On another note, I think heroin and DMT are both under a schedule 1 classification in the US, so you are right it isnt any more illegal, it is of the same legal status.
