Default I broke up with an amazing girl...with no 'real' reason.

So we were going great. We really love each other. Stable lives. Everything is great. She's smart, funny, attractive as hell, and just a blast to chill out with. She's that good that I want to spend the rest of my life with her.

The issue is: Before that, there are lots of things I want to do, and places I want to travel. Things I could seriously not do if I was with her.

A lot and a lot of travel. Places she doesn't want to go. Fair enough. If I was just going there shortly I'm sure she'd compromise and come if I did something for her. But I want to work in these places as well, for a decent amount of time.

So I'm leaving next month, and we've pretty much broken up. We still see each other a lot, go out, kiss, have sex, everything...but we're just 'broken up'.

Basically I was wondering what solution there is to this problem. My selfish desires tell me I want her to wait for me. But I also want her to be happy, with a person by her side who will love her and give her the affection she needs. Arg. It's rather painful having to break up when everything is still perfect...

Is the most I can do, leave then come back and hope she hasn't moved on?

I wouldn't really call this a breakup. It's more like you're taking a break in your relationship.

Why not just go with the flow and stop planning about your future together/a part? Who knows how you'll feel. You could always come back and realise that you guys are still as in love and happy to be together as ever.

You could consider that your time away from one another other is a chance to reflect on where you guys really are/were/will be.

I may be alone on this, but I think that breaking up with someone because you still need to "live your life" is a damn good reason, especially since you're still young. It may be selfish, but not doing it would cause all sorts of resentment and regret somewhere down the line.

What fun is a relationship where you're restricted to hell? You can't have sex forever.
Well you can but...

Do you feel the need to sleep with other bitches while you're away?

If you break up with her and leave she WILL(no ands if or buts) move on. If you stay with her and leave she will most likely cheat on you.

Perhaps as a sign of your fidelity to her, invest in one of these babies for your travels and travails:

you're doing the right thing. you have to live your life. you're not going to be too happy with yourself down the road if you end up with her and you havent lived as a result of dating her.

Agreed!

I broke up with my ex to "live my life," as Demoiselle says. I felt if I didn't do it, I'd slowly start to loathe my ex.

Although the ex and I are no longer friends, it's because we just really have nothing in common. It took a break up, after 3 years of being together, to realize this.

I'm happier now, you will be too.

Awesome. Well pretty much one month from now I'm heading off. I'll always love her, and she is my best friend as well as my lover, so I'm sure I'll always have something in common with her.

But yeah, I was starting to become a real cunt because I felt trapped, like I had to stay with her and not fulfill life ambitions.

I don't see what the big deal is. I mean, you can always hook up with her again when you come back from your travels (assuming she is single).

I've bounced around quite a bit. Sometimes it's better to have that good friend, rather than a regret.

Enjoying your life is key. Everybody needs to be somewhat selfish.

Keep in touch with her, but realize that you're in touch with a friend.

It's simple just stay.
