Pot stronger than ever?
http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/06/12/pot.potency.ap/
The article contains some of the usual health propaganda, and nothing in the way of explaining the research methods, so who knows. I was also thinking that the thc may have deteriorated since fucking 1975...but, it's interesting that they study this shit in the first place.

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
Yes marijuana has a much higher potency than in the 70s. Yes they are finding out new things about it and no it is not a perfectly safe drug. There are potential bad mental health effects that can come from smoking excessive amounts daily. It can also cause some bad physical effects from daily excessive use. If you think the shit is good for you or something you are mistaken.

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
I guess when you think about it, they didn't really need to conduct an expensive ass study to know weed from canada is good.

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
Of course it is, it was inevitable that in the last 30 years grow methods and genetics would improve along with knowledge, technology as well as availability and distribution of such information concerning these methods and equipment.
I might be wrong but about 30 years ago plants were either grown outdoors, under low output flourecent strip lights or broader spectrum bulbs reducing growth and flower production as well as poorer quality and understanding of fertilisers and said lighting.

Yep, you're wrong. You kids that think it's more potent nowdays just have no idea. If you were any good at breeding the plants and growing them, you would understand that it isn't more potent. What's more potent is the average commercial quality crap, the average indica genotype/phenotypes... They try to mimic the classic sativa's characteristics and in many cases they've done a good job but the potency of certain equatorial sativas will always beat your "sour apple lime cheese diesel" "purple money g dawg dro dragon" etc.
And it's nature that created these sativas. In the 60s and 70s much of the bud people smoked was high quality imported sativas. It was easier to get back then, so it was actually more potent on average back then. Of course, the average bud in many parts of canada and the US and other places is great, no doubt, but the majority of weed in the world is still commercial crap which has had a decent increase in potency over the years.
Take every research study from australia with a grain of salt. They're usually debunked, because australian government has obviously been sucking the USA's dick for too long to be honest. IT SHRINKS PARTS OF UR BRAIN, scare tactic. Idiotic. IT PUTS DA BIG HOLES IN UR LUNGS, another idiotic scare tactic. ITS DANGEROUSLY MORE POTENT NOWDAYS, < LOL
There's so many topics in this forum where I'd like to help people and inform them of why they're being idiotic and ignorant but this website has thousands of retarded preteens browsing it every day and it's just impossible in some cases to go through all the shit to explain things to them. There's too many, and I feel most won't even listen anyway.
EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_halide_lamp
Notice the date for Metal halide? It has been used a long time, they didn't just use shitty fluorescents. Only the ones who didn't know what the fuck they were doing used fluorescents. The metal halide produces more UVB, so it better simulates equatorial or near equatorial sun, giving better potency than HPS, they've known this a long time. They didn't know exactly why metal halide was giving better potency but they knew it was.
There are very few indoor grow operations even today which will even come close to matching the power/complexity of the equatorial sun. I read an interesting article recently about "bringing out the sativa in your plants" and how most people use the indica's 12/12 flower cycle indoors, even if they're growing a sativa/indica mix. The author said that'd be incorrect. Perhaps he's right but you'd have to do a lot more than change the cycle to fully simulate the correct conditions.
EDIT: While a lot of the lights have become more efficient since the 60s and 70s, and more efficiently simulate the sun's light, they still lack UVB and most are using that 12/12 cycle. There's so many things they still need to improve on. Though I did find a metal halide-uvb bulb on google, for curing resins or something. LOL I wonder what that thing can do...

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
why do anti-drug sites consider this a bad thing? all this means is that people are going to smoke less marijuana to achieve the same high, thus consuming less tar and carbon monoxide.
this is actually a GOOD thing.

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
It'd be nice if the average potency was 20% thc and 20% thcv. Might happen one day. All it would take is someone to create the strain, make it somehow keep its potency and characteristics no matter where it's grown, as long as it's grown pretty well. Then flood the world with seeds of it.

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
I'm pretty sick of this big fucking weed debate. It was banned because "niggers smoked it and rape white women" everyone is prejudice wether they admit it or not. The way it has escalated and the people that have died over it it will most likely never be 100% legal, if you don't like how your country is handling it, move. Come to BC or go to Amsterdam.
As far as I know in BC it's decriminalized for possession up to 30grams. If cops catch you with a quarter or whatever they'll just take it. If it's a joint they'll usually just tell you to put it out.
Stop bitchin' stop whinin'

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
The world just needs more of this
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8499350
Then they'll have no choice, they will have to decriminalize it.

Re: Pot stronger than ever?
I know my father, who grew up as a very drugged out hippie in the 60's, he can't smoke todays pot, it's too strong. Usually, if I smoke with him, we get the leaves, skip the bud.
