What is the most important thing you've learned
...with respect to drug use. That is, what is one thing that you think all responsible responsible drug users should know.
It can be a fact, a preparation or ingestion method/technique, an important piece of information about drugs in general, a certain drug or type of drug, wisdom you've developed about the drug community/scene, or life advice from someone who has 'been there'.
If someone else touched on something you were going to discuss, expand on it or choose something else.
While not everyone here is an expert on everything, I'm sure we all have something we think is important to contribute.
I'll start. Some people like tomatoes, some don't. It depends on the person. Drugs are the same way. Their effects vary by person. Your experience with a substance is never the full measure of that substance's effects. Different people react differently to different drugs. If you've never taken a xanax before, just because you saw someone with a similar build eat ten the night before, drink a twelve pack, and be just fine, by no means does this mean you can do the same safely. It seems like common sense but if everyone here had common sense....well, read the first page.
There is a lot more I'd like to add, but I think I'll turn it over to you guys.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
Iv learned to NOT STAY HIGH, and that having sex on mdma is one (if not the) the best thing is life.
Everything in moderation, i know its hard, but its the only way to get through school with a FINISHED education. And as for psych drugs, their fun when your young, but they really wont help you change your life, because the fact that you needed to take the drug in the first place to give you an epiphany gives me a bad trip..

I agree with you with the exception of the opinion that psychedelics cannot make substantial, lasting impacts on your life. Since I began using mushrooms, LSD, etc for more than getting fuxxor3d. I have recognized many morals and principles that I have, principally through psychedelic drug use, come to value and live by reflected in the way my dad lives and has lived; especially his view of the world, interaction with other people, and what he sees as truly important in life. He is very open about the fact that psychedelic drug use shaped his view on the world, and he wholeheartedly believes, as I do, that his (extensive) experiences have changed him for the better.
And back on topic, I also learned that when you're sniffed up on BLTC you make long ass posts. :p

There's wanting drugs and there's needing drugs. As long as you don't experience the latter, you're quite safe.
Also:
There are many, many people who exaggerate, make up or overstate the damaging effects of drugs.
But don't forget there are also people who understate them.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
Knowing when enough is enough.
I often find myself thinking 'do I really need another line/bomb/drink/spliff' - sad thing is, the answer is almost always 'why the fuck not?!' Therein lies the paradox of this dilemma: rationality is distorted by my intoxicated state of mind, thus, I make decisions that are contrary to what I would otherwise decide in a sober state of mind.
Still, nowadays I'm pretty responsible with drugs. I'd say the most important thing I've learned is that you can't trust a fucked person; even yourself. Hence, I take out with me what I intend to ingest. The flaw of this plan, however, lies in the generosity of others: I can't possible be held responsible if some absolute fucker gives me extra drugs... can I? :p...

Looks like a lot of good stuff has already been posted but above all:
Despite how fun and how awe inspiring they can be, there's more important things in life than drugs. Like the people you love. You should NEVER put drugs before them. That's when you really have a problem.

I'm gonna have to agree with this too. It seems like common sense, but it really isn't...
All too often I hear of people or my friends snorting vicodin, popping random amounts of IR 30mg oxycodones. The best one is a friends friend popped a OC 80 w/ no tolerance. He didn't really have a clue what he was doing... no knowledge of tolerance, etc. Needless to say puke.. puke.. puked... and puked again.
And one more thing. Drugs do not make you cool.

ya this has been a problem for me at times.
sometimes drugs can aid you in realising that one shouldnt spend to much time worrying about responsibilities and letting it stress you out and see that enjoying lfie and being happy is the most important, but ive taken that too far and ignored obligations like university at times.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
too many things to name but the top couple are:
As always moderation is key which was mentioned...
Uh dont think you can not get addicted...with no hx in my family of addiction all it took was a few months of percs and fentanyl and bam I was addicted..with no other signs of an addictive personality..unless you count anorexia ....
Dont be dumb... you can ALWAYS add more but U CANT take it away...do a little and bump as needed dont get all your eggs in a basket and die...
DONT BE A JUNKIE AND RUN THE PRICES UP...yes I know its hard and you might feel desperate as I have too but saying ill pay 50 for a 40mg oxy is just dumb and it raises the price for EVERYONE!!!
as always be safe and enjoy your high!

Don't do drugs with dumb people. Especially not E-tards.
Don't start too young, your fragile little brain isn't ready for that shit yet.
Plan trips out well. Make sure you don't suddenly get flooded with pointy looking 15yo speedfreaks. (Goddamn they looked scary and evil)
Also don't do drugs with people who you can not fully trust.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
drugs should be used for recreational purposes only; things like special occasions, holidays, you name it...
drugs should not be used daily, if the user uses daily they need to realize that they have a problem bigger than themselves.
DON'T EVER CHOOSE DRUGS OVER SCHOOL...your shitty job.....lol maybe, but school? Everyone needs to go to school to be sure they will live a prosperous life.
DO NOT USE DRUGS TO ESCAPE PROBLEMS!!! no matter what they might be. The worse the problem, the worse you can become addicted,, and the worst off you will be.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
Motherfucking MODERATION is key.
Also, if you're trying a new drug, start low and work your way up (in terms of dosage).
Don't believe in bad trips. I've never believed in them, and have never had one. I've had overwhelming experiences, but nothing bad.
This thread should be stickied IMO. It can seriously help alot of up and coming drug users.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
In the long run moderation is a good thing.
Drugs don't have to be just recreational, insight can be gained from the psychedelics.
Better to come down then to keep redosing until you crash painfully.
People can become fiends for anything. You might think your pot head buddies aren't addicted but some of them will be willing to rob you to buy a 5 piece anyways.
Be careful about who you decide to introduce to drugs because some people act like babies when they get high and then they don't take any of your advice and let their lives go downhill and then you're to blame for ruining those retards.
And lastly ummm, don't choose drugs over education but if you even consider making that choice then the education probably wouldn't have done you any good anyways. I have friends with no highschool diplomas because they just stayed at home and got high all day. Now they can't afford any drugs and have to work non stop.

Mostly been said, but fuck it.
*School>Drugs
*Friends>Drugs
*Moderation is key.
*If you take drugs for the sole reason of getting as fucked up as possible (by this, I don't mean getting really, really, high and having fun, but being on the brink of OD), chances are something is going to go wrong eventually.
*Do at least some research if you're trying a new/unfamiliar drug.
*No matter what your friend tells you, as much as you trust him, you NEVER know how a drug is going to affect you. Take it slow at first and then see what happens.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
Things ive learned? Well...
Uhm, never do a drug you've never had experience with before, on a whim, if you're gonna try something new, research it, and try it in MODERATION (ie, dont do what i did and almost overdose on morphine the first time i used)
Never trust your dealer, i dont care how long you've known the guy, as soon as he becomes a dealer, money is his #1 priority, friendship comes second.
Friends who only wanna hang out when you have weed, arent very good friends at all, and chances are, if you called them when you were out, and they had, they wouldn't smoke you out.
And lastly, enjoy the beginnings of your drug career, because pretty soon, its all gonna blur together.
Oh and one last thing, if a friend smokes you on a joint, you better fucking return the favor, atleast once in a while, because theres nothing that'll make a former best friend hate you more then smoking your cheap ass all the time, and never getting anything in return, fuck if you cant even afford weed, atleast bring something to drink/eat/cigarettes. That and if you're hanging out with someone, you are NOT automatically entitled to smoking, especially if you didnt put in. Theres nothing that pisses me off more then having some douchebag acquaintance of mine come into my car, and not even 5 minutes into chilling they ask "so you gonna smoke me on a joint?" Motherfucker, if i tell you im going to, im going to, but im my fucking terms, not yours, so you sit back, shut the fuck up and wait till IM ready to smoke, or else ill roll up, spark up, and dump your ass on the side of the highway.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
I thought I'd add this:
No matter how you justify it to yourself stealing medicine from someone is one of the lowest things you can do. Some people do have legitimate reasons for having drugs. Anxiety problems are very real and there are people who are in enough pain that they need their hydromorph.....every moment of every day.
Encountered an instance of this today and remembered this thread.

Re: What is the most important thing you've learned
The single most important thing I have learned is about trust. DO NOT TRUST ANYONE. Don't trust anything ANYONE says, no matter how smart they are or who they are ("oh well hes a big druggy so he must know what hes talking about" etc).
Never believe anything you hear on the street without confirming it through research. Seriously, if people just stopped trusting their friends words then there would be a lot less bullshit myths in circulation.
When you fuck around with any drug you are risking your health. When you take other peoples advice regarding drugs you are trusting them with your fucking life. How many druggies would you trust your mother fucking life too? If you said anything other than 'zero' then just shoot yourself in the face.
Seriously don't believe anything you hear on the street, even if your best buddy swears to god its true. Research it, or you deserve whatever negative repercussions occur.
Don't trust anything anyone says and never trust anyone with your money, stash, or protection (assume your friends will rat you out if caught so keep all evidence private).
My general advise is to stay away from opiates. Honestly they cause way more problems then they solve. Sure, it feels unbelievably awesome when you're high but then you crave that feeling for the rest of your sober life. Not worth it.
