Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
I was looking through some old documents I had. and I found this. I haven't come across it in a long time, but I never had the time or supplies to try it out. It is from a few years ago before airline security decided to start using liquid chemical testers. What do you think?
FIRE WATER
WHAT YOU NEED
CHEMICAL FORMULA NAME PLACE TO OBTAIN
50g of KNO3 potassium nitrate N/A
100ml of
70-91% isopropyl alcohol
2g of Ca(OCl)2 calcium hypochlorite
20ml of glycerin
30g of acetylsalic acid aspirin
15ml of 3% acetic acid solution vinegar
40ml of 30% HCl solution hydrochloric acid
How to make fire-water:
Add 50g of KNO3 (potassium nitrate) to 100ml of 91%/70% isopropyl alcohol.
Heat this solution over flame until it comes to a boil.
Now dump this solution into a 1000ml beaker containing 32g of Ca(OCl)2
(calcium hypochlorite). Now add 15ml of 3% acetic acid solution (vinegar).
Cool in an ice bath until the temperature drops to below five degrees Celcius.
Now add 20ml of glycerin, and 30g of acetylsalic acid (aspirin).
Keep cool in an ice bath for a full hour. Now for the final an most important step:
adding the hydrochloric acid.
Add 40ml of 30% HCl solution (hydrochloric acid) to the beaker, and heat until it
reaches a full broil.
Continue to heat until all traces of water are gone.
Heat the residue until all traces of moisture are gone.
Now take the residue, and add 10g of it to every 100ml of water.
Now you have an EXTREMELY flammable
liquid that was once used by the military as an inexpensive substitute for napalm.

Re: Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
Not sure what's going on there. It's hard to follow that reaction. (it's also been a while since I've looked at chem!)
So lets' see... KNO3 isn't very soluable in alcohol, so when you heat it in the alcohol solution, it's just dissolving into the water.
So you have
KNO3(aq) + Ca(OCl)2 --> ???
If you get a double-displacement reaction, you're in trouble.
From: http://cameochemicals.noaa.gov/chemical/4315
"POTASSIUM HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTION is a powerful oxidizing agent. May form highly explosive NCl3 on contact with urea. Heating or contact with acids produces highly toxic fumes of chlorine gas"
And what's the next step? Adding acid and heating!
This sounds like a terrible idea already!
Okay, so let's say you don't die. Assuming you DID get a double displacement reaction, here's what you've got in your beaker
KClO(aq) + Ca(NO3)2
now add acetic acid (CH3COOH) and you could end up with calcium acetate and nitric acid, or potassium acetate and chloric acid (or, more likely, BOTH!)
So then you add in aspirin...and maybe you could get some picric acid action going on there, if you're lucky. It could also form some fucked-up stuff with the chloric acid too. With the glycerin, again, you could possibly get a LITTLE bit of nitroglycerin in there, but it would probably also interact with the chloric acid and make some nasty shit.
Finally, you're going to dump in MORE acid, and BOIL IT.
If this doesn't scream "runaway reaction," I don't know what does.
Okay, let's assume you DON'T die (again). Now you're going to heat it until it's dry!?!?!?!?!!?
First of all, you're gonna get BOMBARDED with nasty fumes. Chlorine, several forms of acid, and Lord-knows what else. But let's say you have a fume hood. EVEN THEN...let's not forget, you are HEATING EXPLOSIVES! YOU WILL DIE!
So boom, you're dead.
***
Epilogue (or epitaph, if you went ahead with this):
Don't follow crazy directions you find on the internet.
The first thing that should cue your bullshit sensor is the wacky mixing and heating, but "inexpensive alternative" to napalm? I mean, I know gas prices are high and all...but do you think all 10 or so of these ingredients are cheaper than gasoline and a thickener?

you should try it just to convice yourself how these recipies usually work out (in a small ammount)
it will do you better then trying to get us to play chemistry magician

It reads like something someone would publish to get terrorists to read and try it and subsequently die while making it.
Seriously.
Fire water? Grow the fuck up.

I dont realy thin anyones bollocks are big enough for that let alone the other steps.
and if your heating a solution of alcohol and water your going to lose the alcohol first.
Also I wouldnt recomend heating anything which might contain chloric acid its nasty shit.

Re: Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
ummm...take it from me...don't fux with KCLO!
also,hot ALCOHOL INTO HYPYCHLORITE BAD!
*slaps ass with board with nail through it*
I can tell you after those first two steps youre not gonna get that temp to anywhere near a safe handling level. if it doesnt outright combust.
time for a practical demo...
take 10ml of isopropyl and warm it in a 100ml mason on a hot plate...take an eye dropper and drop a concentrated solution of any hypochlorite....notice the fumes, the heat, and lack of an oxidiser to start a REAL fire.
kinetic energy control man...

One of my coworkers mentioned firewater as being vodka...
I'm a fan. And I do have reason to believe that drinking vodka is a tiny bit safer than what youre trying to do here.
Oh yeah, from Russian, Vodka translated roughly as "Little Water".
And yes. Grow the fuck up.

That sounds pretty sweet. What I would do is take half the supplis, make a kind of bunker in a big mound of dirt, put them all in, and set them all off at the same time. hehe. put some idiot ON the bunker while ur at it. Should be pretty fun. For the second half, you should strap the fireworks to something and set it off, like some gay pokemon toys. I'd use at least 1 firework on a stupid pokemon. As well as that, you could make a sparkler bomb, and put some fireworks in the middle. That would look pretty cool. In case u dont know, heres how u make sparkler bombs: http://www.dansdata.com/personal/Bombs.html

Re: Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
napalm's much easier to make
gasoline + styrofoam [forgot specifically which type]
stir until dissolved, continue adding styrofoam until you get a yellowish gel
put in half-tennis ball, ignite, and fling with one of those tennis-ball slings
run like hell

Re: Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
Benzene and polystyrene is used to gel gasoline and is known as Napalm-B and is the modern day napalm. The original was aluminum salts of NAphthenic and PALMitic acids which was used to jell gasoline. Hence where the name napalm came from.

Re: Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
yes we all know that (at least those who actually do their homework) but in the interest of cost/time/materials I believe the B variant is easiest...provided you actually realize the AC is full of shite

Re: Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
this sounds like that powder that some guy added to water and ran an engine off of. i saw it on a news program on youtube. it was pretty impressive, add some white powder to water, pour mixture into engine and away you go. he didn't tell you what he added to the water, for good reason if the fuel companies found him revealing the secret he would be shot in the fucking head. I'm not sure if this is what your talking about but it just reminded me of it.
i sure would like to know if it was. hey hu ever made this thread. do it and if you survive and it does work please post back. if you don't post back in like a week i take no responsibility for your injury or death.

Re: Fire Water: Would this recipe work?
That's an age-old fuel scam. People have been trying to pull that "run an engine on water" shit since the '40's, if not earlier. It doesn't work. Nothing you can add to water will give it the energetic potential anywhere near gasoline. Gasoline has more energetic potential per weight than TNT, did you know that?
Whatever that moron did with his "white powder" was staged. The reason no oil company conspiracies have shot him yet is because the idea doesn't fucking work. And if it did work, why would Mr. Moron be spreading the concept around via shitty internet videos when he could just start selling the stuff directly to every gas and petrol station on the face of the Earth and become a millionaire overnight? Oh, wait, that's right...
Someone already linked one of Daniel Rutter's pages above (the one about sparkler bombs) so why not go a step further and see what the man has to say (http://dansdata.blogsome.com/category/firepower/) about fuel scams (http://dansdata.blogsome.com/category/scams/) like this one?
