for example today, we drove to oxford so i could go to the dentist, fine. but afterwards we went to the chinese supermarket to get some stuff, because she is chinese, and i went around putting lots of stuff in the trolley, then when we went to pay she payd all, then we went to the puesdown arms and had a drink and something to eat and she settled up when i went to the toilet and the barman gave me a look like i was somekind of user or manwhore.

its nice for my pocket, not so good for my ego.

Your girlfriend obviously likes paying, or else she would show signs that she does not. If she likes paying, then in effect (in effect) you are making her happy.

My boyfriend pays for all our meals together, and he drives me around in his fuel guzzler (though I'd happily drive him in my economical shitbox but he hates my car) and he often buys me little presents. I feel terrible (I earn about twice as much as him at the moment because he just started an apprenticeship) so to make up for it somewhat I buy him luxuries. Magazines (LOTS of magazines), coffees, snacks, occasionally CD's and the likes, and presents if I find something I think he'd like. So despite the fact I buy things he doesn't need, it makes him happy so it's sort of even. :)

my boyfriend and i earn about the same amount, but my parents are far more generous (we both still live with our respective parents). while his parents charge him rent and make him pay for things that the whole family uses (such as cable tv), my parents are willing to pay for half my flights when i go to europe this summer.

so i feel guilty that my parents are so generous because he's going to have to pay for his flights by himself. to overcome that, i pay for both of us when we go out quite frequently. at the end of the day, my disposable income is higher than his and so i prefer to pay than forgo going out and doing things because he feels he can't afford it.
