Default a little advice please?

ok so here is a little bg information. i get a gf a while ago and everything is going great. but then lately she seems to be depressed and stuff like that and i try to find out why. then i found out she started to cut herself.
she told me she used to but then she stopped and now she is starting again. i believe it has to do with her home life and certain verbal abuse she has to put up with. now i found out she almost did again and she won't tell me why. she says that it is hard to stop and i would like to know how i can approach this situation and help her stop. every time i try to talk about it she gets uneasy and changes the subject.
what should i do?

I used to share your same boat. For five months this school year I dated a girl who was depressed and was also a cutter. I'm going to start out by saying that you have to be extremely weary of dating people who are depressed. It was extremely hard for me, my dad who went through a divorce based on her depression, and a baseball coach who dated a girl for three years. Someone can't be happy with someone else if they aren't happy by themselves.

I was able to really help my then-girlfriend by promising to go clean (of drugs). Worked well. For like three months she only cut once and that was during a pretty big fight.

You have to talk to her, IMO. Say that you're her boyfriend and in love with her. Nothing is as important in your life as she is. And, in order to have to have a good loving relationship, you two have to both be honest with each other. Not about the past, but about things that affect the other person. This is something important. No one should have to deal with that pain alone.

Of course, she should probably seek out professional help.

yes i'd like to be able to talk to her about it but she never really lets me. i guess i will just have to be straightforward about it.

You can't help her unless she tells you. Just try putting it the way I did in my previous post. Don't push her too hard though, you don't want to force it out of her; you want her to want to open up to you because she trusts and loves (on some level) you.

More from my personal life!!! When my girl used to not tell me something, I knew that it wasn't good for the relationship. It was always something bad about us.

well when she doesn't tell me something, it could range from anything lol. she has this irrational fear that if she says something to me that i will think she is weird and stuff idk why. ive told her she can tell me anything but i guess i should try harder to establish better communication.

you can only help her, if shes willing to help herself first...you're probably better off just letting her be...as harsh as that sounds, or as hard as it might be...
