Default SSRI's

I don't normally come here, but think bltc might be more useful than headshrinkers.

Is it possible/normal for an ssri to have the exact opposite effect it should? I've been on them for a few weeks and have become more withdrawn and suicidal, having panic attacks daily. Am I just fucked?

That's very, very common as a side-effect for people just starting SSRIs. It's usually a pretty solid indicator that they aren't going to work out for you, no matter how the doc tries to med-swap and dose-adjust.

Listen to a lot of anti-depressant commercials; always some shit like "Call your doctor if you experience severe side effects such as worsening of depression or suicidal thoughts." They also increase anxiety for some people, and occasionally cause even mellow-types to get angry, aggressive, and even violent.

Ask Meta what Prozac did for him. Think it was Prozac, at least....he'll know what I'm referring to.

Talk to your doc ASAP, though. Btw, which SSRI, just to satisfy my curiosity? Not that I consider them much different...

50mg zoloft for the moment. Only been on it 2 weeks and been getting worse for a week so figured it was related. Going back to the doctor in 3 days. The receptionist is ignorant/incompetent couldn't understand why being suicidal would cause someone to want a more urgent appointment. Mad

Careful what you tell them, you don't wanna get pink-slipped into the psych ward.
