Freezing Mushrooms
Suppose you can get a hold of mushrooms but not unless it's in "bulk" and you won't necessarily be able to get rid of this bulk for some time...
Is there a way to preserve them so they stay fresh and keep all the original components so they still trip you out? I'm thinking the freezer.
Good idea, bad idea? It's summer here, the winters get quite cold, and right now I happen to be loaded.

Re: Freezing Mushrooms
If they're dry, can't you just keep them somewhere dark and cool?

Correct. You can actually store mushrooms for a pretty long time without having to worry about affecting the potency.

Re: Freezing Mushrooms
As long as they're dry, they should be just fine. Just keep them away from extreme heat because it'll destroy the alkaloids. Keeping them in a moist environment will make them mold. So keep them away from those 2 variables and you should be just fine.
If they're still wet, keep them in the fridge till you can dry them, but for no more than about a week. Psilocybes don't have a very long shelf life when wet because there are no preservatives or anything used.

Re: Freezing Mushrooms
You can suate (sp?) fresh mushrooms in butter real quick, just to coat them, and then immediately freeze them. Real quick though, high heat destroys psilocybin.

Re: Freezing Mushrooms
I keep Mushrooms in a dark place like a cabinet, in a jar or a bag, and they seem to keep for upwards of months and keep their potency.
You might like this, though:

Supposively, storing them in dry ice can keep potency for up to 5+ years.

Re: Freezing Mushrooms
Do NOT store them wet. I've read too many stories of people eating up to an ounce of thawed mushrooms and feeling almost no effects because of keeping them in the freezer. Keep 'em dry and then freeze them; use dry ice as well if you want them to stay for an extra long time and are really worried about losing potency (though not that much is lost when stored in plain O2, it might be worth the expense).
