My first thought is, bullshit; People were getting freaked out on acid, word got around that it was because of the 'brown acid'. So anyone who'd taken brown acid started thinking that it was really bad and got worked up over it. Or anyone who had a bad trip thought they'd taken brown acid, and people dropping acid were worried that it was brown acid they took and then once they start tripping they got the idea it was. But according to my mum, people died from it and stuff. Now I'm fairly sure that acid can't kill you unless you take a fuck load of it. So I suspect its bullshit. But I will ask BLTC, does the idea of the brown acid at Woodstock sound plausible to you, or just a bunch of urban legend style bullshit?

The 'brown acid' was just a very heavily loaded blotter. I never heard of anybody dying, and if they did, it wasn't from the acid, it would have been from misadventure compounded by being on acid.

The announcement went along the lines of "Uh, we don't want to tell you guys what to do, but the brown acid tabs are pretty strong and some people have gone a bit too far on them because they didn't know how strong hey are. if you're gonna take one be careful".

Then, of course,a lot of people freaked out because they'd taken the brown acid and people who'd mis-heard the announcement or just heard rumours thought it was a bad tab or dangerous, and other people freaked out because they didn't know if they'd taken it or not.

All in all, it was just a strong tab that got hyped up to be 'dangerous' a a bunch of whacked-out woodstockians immortalised.

Oh it was true alrighty. Not only can you hear the annopuncements about it over the PA in the film. But there were people in the med tents because of it.

Also, the brother of one of my friend's was there - he's even in the film [one of the mud slide scenes] and he told me a lot about the whole event.

The story that I heard was the the brown L going around Woodstock was just really strong. Somebody (maybe Hendrix, I can't remember) decided that it would be funny to freak some people out, so he made an announcement saying something along the lines of "If you've taken the brown acid, you have just been poisoned."

They caught wind of it being bad, and someone heard it , freaked out and then it started a chain reaction.

if you listen to the whole album you can hear the PA announcment and it wasnt trying to freak them out. it went along the lines of,"there is some brown acid going around and its a little strong, if your or someone you know has had some, just be careful and maybe take a stop by the med tent."

I've had quite of bullshit prints before including the garcia tie dye blotters. I've had lots of prints such as smilies and dancing condoms that turned out out to be a DO* chemical. The rolling stone blotters I get now are rated around 220mics and have been tested

Pick up the woodstock video and see for yourself.

The guy says not to eat the brown acid because it's bad acid. This naturally freaks out all of the people who took it.

He sees this, and later in the festival he states that "It's not poison, it's not going to hurt you, it's just bad acid. It's not as good as other acid that's being circulated around."

So basically, the acid was just shitty, and the only reason everyone started freaking out was because he came on and said not to buy or take it until after they had taken it.
