zoloft to xanax?
ok reason for this is quite simple. zoloft is easy as shit to get perscribed while xanax isn't. zoloft comes in 100mg pills, and can be perscribed up to 200mg a day easily, xanax doses are like 1-2mg. and they both look very similar.
zoloft: C17H17Cl2N
xanax: C17H13ClN4
so, what do you guys think? my chemist friend is thinking about this atm but needs to find a chemical before being able to do this. any ideas? all help would be greatly appreciated, anything to steer my friend in the right direction.
thanks!

Re: zoloft to xanax?
The structure is much more important when comparing molecules than the formula.
Zoloft:
Xanax:
See how on Xanax there are those triangular lines instead of the straight ones? That means it is coming to you (as in, 3D), where the Zoloft is only 2D. There are a few other differences, so I would say (with my very limited knowledge) that is extremely difficult and it would probably be more practical to synthesize it, as apposed to manipulating an existing chemical structure.
edit: Also, even if it was practical, you not being able to figure it out means you have nowhere near enough knowledge in chemistry to do it successfully, let alone with acceptable yields, no offense. Hell, I doubt I could do anything but basic distillations and refluxes with actual glassware, let alone complex reactions some of the members accomplish with ghetto glassware.

Re: zoloft to xanax?
thanks for the response. i dont plan on doing this, i know a chemist that will make the stuff (hopefully). my chemistry knowledge is very limited and i dont wish to spend the time to relearn it, i just want to help this kid out and wanted your advice.

Re: zoloft to xanax?
I doubt anyone here could pull that off, but if he wants a sedative, I hear quaaludes are fairly easy. Look on google for a rhodium archive (erowid has one), I'm pretty sure I saw a 'lude synth over there.

I doubt he will, its not as easy as it can seem on paper or when you talk about it

Indeed ludes are much easier and an extremely satisfying product ! Heck, you can still buy o-totulide, no need to do all those nasty nitrations and Fe/Hcl reductions!

Re: zoloft to xanax?
Sorry to say, but your "chemist friend" was talking shit.
That's not an easy thing to pull off.
Unless he finds this magical chemical he's waiting for...

Zoloft to xanax?
I'm sure this can be done... though I've no intention of working out how...
If you were actually serious about wanting to undertake this synthesis, it would almost certainly be simpler and more economical to start from scratch...

Re: zoloft to xanax?
pulling this off would be so costly in time and $ that it's just not feasible. The heteroatom and the seven-membered ring really make it a bitch.
