Pharmacology Question on Cocaine and Welbutrin
They are both dopamine reuptake inhibitors.
Cocaine gets you high.
Only a few people claim to get high from welbutrin.
Why would cocaine put you in that amazing feeling wheres welbutrin doesn't do shit (The people who claim to get high say its a tweaky feeling similar to cut ass meth)?

Re: Pharmacology Question on Cocaine and Welbutrin
Just because they both increase dopamine reuptake doesn't mean they are similar in effects at all. Cocaine causes a massive rush of dopamine in a short amount of time, causing the euphoria you feel.

exactly. alot of anti-depressents work on dopeamine that doesnt mean they get you high.
rule of thumb - dont do anti-depressents to get high

Re: Pharmacology Question on Cocaine and Welbutrin
Ok, but WHY doesn't it get you high? I know most SSRIs work the opposite way of reuptake, but welbutrin doesnt.

Re: Pharmacology Question on Cocaine and Welbutrin
because, yes, they both release dopamine, cocaine does it in a rushing manner when wellbutrin does effect the dopamine but it is probably a more extended lighter release.

NRIs inhibit reuptake. Cocaine works as both a D1 agonist while also working as a strong dopamine transport protein inhibitor. New D1 is rapidly gained and the additional dopamine that was in your brain will collect with the new D1.
Also, I would assume that the norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors would cause a downregulation in dopamine production, as NE is a degradation product DA and a large amount of NE would homostisize by downregulating those B-hydroxylase receptors. An inhibition of the NET's slight ability to reuptake DA helps too.

Re: Pharmacology Question on Cocaine and Welbutrin
I don't know about the pharmacology behind it, but I do find that wellbutrin gets me 'high'. I wouldn't say it's a large amount of euphoria, if any. I WOULD however say that I get a feeling like coke minus the euphoria.
