how salvia kicked my collective ass
When I was received a gram of 5x salvia, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, on any level despite extensive reading. I had read on erowid and even seen videos of the effects being so powerful that the user literally falls over and becomes entirely immobile for the entire trip, being transported mentally to a new dimension. Yet I've also heard first-hand accounts of people saying that the effects were much milder than most claimed and that they mostly laughed hysterically and were still able to walk without much difficulty. I've also heard by some that there is even a "reverse tolerance" and that most don't even get trip their first time because they smoked it incorrectly, didn't inhale enough or didn't hold it in long enough.
Doubting that I would be able to hold the smoke in long enough, especially after hearing how bad it tastes, smells and the fact that I would be using a torch lighter without a bong (using a standard pipe), I packed my bowl to the top and crammed as much as possible into it. One fourth of a gram would probably be a conservative estimate for the amount I was able to fit in.
I finally lit up in my backyard, sitting in a lawn chair in the shade. The first few hits I took, I coughed out immediately. Probably around the third, and largest hit I was able to hold in. For how long? I don't know. This is the point where time became meaningless, unfortunately dragging much of my memory of the next ten to fifteen minutes with it.
Not long after I took that final hit I for some reason decided to go back inside. This is not only surprising in that I was able to walk around the narrow passageway around my pool without falling in, but that I have no memory of doing this. All I remember about this is almost feeling a part of my backyard. It and I were alive, not in any animalistic sense but in one that transcends explanation. While everything was in constant change and perhaps what could be described as 'motion', everything was resisting me. It felt as if it were a futile and even lethal struggle to move beyond my 'place' in the backyard, but for some reason I felt it was necessary. The best I can describe this was that I felt as if I were an inanimate object, such as a chair (although I didn't feel like a specific object), trying to move with my own will and accord. I felt like I were breaking the laws of physics and the universe was expending its own wrath trying to force me back.
After I was inside my house, the hallucinations stopped. I was at a moment of clarity and decided to go upstairs and put up my pipe. After getting upstairs, I noticed I had a burnt hole in my shirt that went all the way through to my pants (although I didn't have any burn marks on my body or pain from it, and obviously no memory of this happening). At this point I decided to change my clothes and go ahead and wash out my pipe with some water. After this, I decided to lie down for a while because I just wasn't feeling normal.
This is where things get fuzzy again. Reflecting on the whole experience, I'm not entirely sure if at this point I was 'merely' thinking about the hallucinations I had coming inside or if these were entirely new hallucinations, or perhaps that I was thinking about what happened outside and the memory itself triggered new hallucinations, which is probably what happened since I'm guessing it took no longer than three or four minutes to do all the above, meaning the trip was probably not completely over at the time.
All I remember for certain is that I again felt as if I were a part of the inanimate world. This time there was this cracking type noise and everything was being pulled apart and simultaneously spinning in a non-periodic way. I was running, or rather escaping-- I didn't really have a body at this point--and when I thought I had escaped around a 'corner' the splitting and the cracking noise began again. After this hallucination, or perhaps memory of one, faded I realized this splitting was actually caused by my own movement (and reflecting, at this point, I think it was actually each breath I took). After this realization I wondered, what happened to this being that was trying to escape my own movement? Had I killed it? Had I killed myself in another 'reality' in order to live in this one? This was the reality I was trying to escape to or was I trying to escape from it? It was all surreal and still is even thinking about it.
When I finally came back completely to sanity, and thought about the trip, I assumed I had decided to go back inside because I had probably thought I wasn't going to feel anything-- since I had assumed I would be completely immobile. Although after considering the burns through my clothes, I think it is also possible that I subconsciously stood up as a reaction to the burns and just began walking because, well, I was tripping, and only happened to end up inside and not stumbling into my pool and drowning (or even on fire from due to dropping the pipe) by pure luck.
I always try to draw insight from trips, yet surprisingly have had trouble finding any from this one, despite what most people say about salvia trips being naturally insightful. After further thought though, I think I can draw from this experience that humans and perhaps all animals thrive on the illusion that we have control, that we have free will and that we are separate entities from the universe, when in fact we are none of these things. The universe will resist all this, not because it is angry or evil, but that is just how things are. Nothing can change that. And I think this is what made this trip the most terrifying experience in my life, because of the impersonality in the dynamic, ever changing atmosphere that I experienced. For, if this resistance to change and control happened due to anger, or spite there would at least be something to relate to, some justification for the illusion of my individual existence.
My only recommendation for anyone who wants to take salvia, is to not worry about what will happen mentally, salvia will kick your ass for trying to guess where it wants to take you, but to worry about what will happen physically. If you are completely against having a trip sitter (which I still don't think is necessary) at least smoke over a table, so when you do drop the pipe you won't burn yourself or catch yourself on fire, and keep all hands and feet in the vehicle at all times-- no standing or walking.

1. did u have trip sitter dude? if fell into that pool without a sitter, u could have been completely fucked
2. i get the inanimate object bit. ive never broken through, but in like the three times ive tried it, its like its hard to tell the difference between myself and my room. once i laid down on my bed, and got confused as to where my head ended and my pillow began. weird shit.
[Edit]
ok sorry, didn't read to the end, u didn't have a trip sitter. ive smoked it alone, but in my room where there isn't a pool.

Yeah, I guess I kind of underestimated my mobility, assuming it wouldn't be a problem because I didn't expect to be able to even stand up in the first place.
ive smoked it alone, but in my room where there isn't a pool.I would smoke inside, but the smell reeks and I wouldn't want to have that lingering around even if I had my own place. Maybe I'll have to make some tea so that I can have the trip inside.

I've never minded the smell of salviam at the what I've gotten in the past. It's not a nice smell, and I'd clean a weed pipe/bong after smoking salvia in it, but it's not that bad, kind of like..I don't know, wet, burning hay?

Collective ass? What's that?
Since most of the hallucinations had me feeling as if I was a part of my surroundings in some degree, I say collective. Best way I can describe it, I guess.

I guess you could get used to it. But it smells like burning plastic or something to me.

Don't ever think in absolutes when it comes to drugs. The first time I broke through I was on DXM which wasn't the brightest idea.
I got up mumbling about having to get away and my two friends had to pin me to the ground so I wouldn't run away. They had to tell me what happened afterward.
We also had to hold another one of my friends down as he convulsed and flung his limbs violently on the ground. Apparently, he was a piece of paper/curtain crinkling.
Oh yeah, don't ever trust salvia people. They lie and are usually evil.

Which I think probably helped convince me that I'd have a similar experience on DXM (physically that is, not at all mentally).
Don't ever think in absolutes when it comes to drugs.Words of wisdom.

Re: how salvia kicked my collective ass
I did my first salvia experience alone, and almost made an ass out of myself. After hitting the bowl hard a third time, I sort of blacked out and later came to in the midst of a really, really powerful psychedelic experience. I didn't know who I was, where I was, or that I'd smoked salvia. And I couldn't move. At all. I looked down and saw that I was literally fused to my chair and time seemed to be replaying the same second over and over again.
Finally I wrenched myself up out of my chair, struggled down a short hallway that seemed impossibly long, and almost ran clear out the front door of my apartment and out into the parking lot when I realized... "Wait, this is my apartment...I smoked salvia...I'm just kind of flipping out."
It was a crazy, crazy experience man, not really like anything else I've ever done. I don't smoke it any more.

Re: how salvia kicked my collective ass
Mmm....I love the smell of salvia...the taste....the smoke...everything about it...
You know that book where that writer started off rambling about pastries and went for god knows how many more pages on other such stuff? Yeah, I could probably do that with salvia...
When smoking salvia, prepare to die, but expect nothing. 's the best advice I can give.
Oh yeah, don't ever trust salvia people. They lie and are usually evil.
hahahahahaha
it's the sheer power of it
power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely
