Default Smoking weed.

Ok so yeah, we all smoke weed in this forum and get high.

But can you guys remember back to when you first started smoking?
The time when 3 cones got you fucked and tripping, where you could smoke at 7pm and still be high by the time you passed out at 1am.
When picking up a deal with your friends was a big thing, and the anticipation was just as good as the high. And the high was a crazy new experience, not slow and lazy, but exciting and fun.
Fuck i miss those days.
I don't laugh at shit, i don't get the munchies, i don't get red eyes and the high just isn't the same anymore.

Ok my question is, if i quit for 6 months will i get that high we all used to love?

I remember about 5 years ago when an oz. of brown was only £30, and they were always over weight.

Those were the days.

Um... like you know, when you buy a deal it is weighed isn't it?

1oz. = 28g

We used to get oz's for £30 that were usualy 30/31g.

Extra joints worth or 2 isn't it :)

You could get an oz for 30quid, i call bullshit.

Thats why i said lulwut. Plus you also mentioned brown which made me think you was talking about H, which then would of made me think even more bullshit.

I also miss the original high.

Not so much munchies, red eyes, etc. But the everlasting high that you used to get when you didn't smoke so much...

I'm taking a 2 day break since I've gotta drink some detox soon and take a drug test for a job. I'm hoping even that will lower my tolerance. I've been smoking too much anyways...

I think I've gone 3-5 months smoking 4+ blunts a day, every day. Before that I was still smoking everyday but not as much... just a few bowls.

I may just not smoke for a while now that I think about it, that was a shit load of smoking.

After smoking up daily for two years and then quitting for 6 months, I'm going to finally get that same high again...

I think we ALL remember that first bowl that we made out of tinfoil and tried to smoke stealthily out of their parent's basement. The adrenaline you got from doing something illegal was enough to mak e it magical.

Once I moved out, it was just kinda, 'woo! more weed.'. I hope to bring back that original feeling soon.

It is. Much cheaper...

OP, leaving it 6 months will help bring back the more pronounced and prolonged effects that you used to experience when you were a newb smoker, but it won't bring back that sense of excitment and daring that young teenagers feel when they first pick up/smoke *OMG ILLEGAL* bud.

You can make the hash off the rest of the plant, you don't get much, but you still get a bit. Also its possible to cut hash with plastic and shit.
But still i think hes lying.

I'm currently in the longest break from weed i've had since I started smoking.........i used to blaze around an eighth a day, sometimes more sometimes a lil less.

But its now June 2 and i haven't smoked since May 6 (i've been wanting to take a break for a while now because honestly i couldn't even really get high anymore).

let me tell ya, the last couple weeks i've had some crazy vivid dreams almost every night. i actuailly remember stuff, like the names of people i just met or what i had for breakfast (my memory was shot before). its kind of cool actually...

i plan on buyin an eighth in a couple days and smokin the whole thing to my face, hopefully it feels like one of the first times i blazed. i'll fill u guys in.

It was just like that the first time I got high. When I moved here(london) after smoking for about 7 years daily I couldn't find a hookup and went without bud for about a month. I mean a month off it got me a little higher then usualy but NOTHING like the first time.

Just smoke some more weed, even after smoking for 7 years I could get pretty ripped off a joint of BC bud. If all else fails get some oil and smoke it untill you can't move or eat anything else.

Or eat a bunch of pot cookies. I remember I cooked my breakfast with cannabutter, I was fuckeddd before I even got half way through it (scrambled eggs, fried bread, bacon toast all cooked in the butter) I had to put the plate down and ended up passing out quite soon after.

Lol I remember that shit. I was always excited when I went to buy pot, like it was a big deal to me. Then when I was about to smoke I always was kinda nervous somehow and excited. Then once I smoked I was so fucked up for hours just chilling with friends just fucking around, eating munchies, playing video games. It made everything so fun. Then it got old. Now I have to quit for awhile.

Yeah, if you stop for a few months it will be like the old days. For 5 or 6 sessions, then you'll pick up right where you left off before you quit. It sucks, but at least it's not like with harder drugs where once the magic is gone, it's just gone (personally anyway).

Soapbar. It's still more expensive than that though, even if you are getting an incredibly good deal, and really, no deal involving soapbar is a good one.

Hash is always better then the bud its made out of, unless its cut. In Europe, if you get hash for 50£ an ounce, it WILL be cut (or you know a smuggler). Normal price in most of Europe is around 10$ to 30$, depending on quality. Regular bud is usually more expensive, since it is grown locally in Europe. Most hash in Europe is imported from North Africa, where most of the plants they grow are really bad. Thus, you can find bud in Europe which is better then the hash, and therefor green can be more expensive. In North America, all the hash is made out of locally grown bud. This means the hash is usually better then the bud you'll find around, which leads it to become more expensive.

So in North America, green < brown
In Europe, green > brown

There are exceptions in Europe. That is if you on the rare occasion find first grade uncut hash, it will be better then any bud you can find. Prices for that in Norway are 30$. Niggers will attempt to sell you crappy cut hash for 30$ aswell, so be careful. I bit on that once, never again shall I buy from a nigger. Another exception, kindof, is Amsterdam. The best hash in Amster is still better then the best bud. However, the hash is sold legally, and therefor not cut.

Keep in mind that not all crappy hash is cut. The technique North Africans use to make hash gives them first grade, second grade and third grade hash, with first grade being the best.

Back on topic. I quit for around 6 months for a while (after smoking for two years). The first time I smoked again, I got super baked. I got tunnel vision and all the wicked shit. After that time, it wore off. The tolerance will fall, but it'll damned quickly build up again. I'm back at my old tolerance now, after smoking maybe 20 times in the last 4 months. You cannot make weed more exciting by quitting it for a while. You have three options:
Continue smoking weed and just be chill
Quit drugs altogether
Move onto harder stuff

I'd recommend finding some mushrooms or LSD. Those drugs are fun, pretty harmless, and non-addictive. However, if you use them to much, they will aswell loose their magic.

You guys are probably all like 18-24 talking about missing the good old days of smoking, and I can understand that. There was nothing better than chilling with my friends, and letting bud change our perceptions of the world, and just veg out but I for one am completely happy those noob effects are gone.

The reason people have a problem with stoners, aside from the lazy factor, is they think anybody who smokes weed (no matter how long they've been smoking) will act like a brainless, giggling moron.

Yea, laughing my ass off at nothing was fun...but I enjoy life without weed and don't need it to laugh. So I can live without that.

The munchies themselves weren't cool, it was actually how awesome weed made food taste that everybody enjoys. IMO it's annoying if you just ate dinner, smoke a fattie then you're back in the kitchen cooking up a whole chicken. However, I still use weed to make candy, sweets, and food that much more awesome. In addition to that, I also use weed to help make bland, more healthy food tolerable so I won't be tempted to eat greasy, fattening foods just for the great taste.

I still get red eyes...I don't believe people who say they've been smoking for 10+ years and don't get red eye anymore. Maybe they don't notice it, but I bet when they're high as fuck they still get squinty chinese eyes and that's a dead give away. Not to mention the feeling of strain I feel my eyes being put under. Some people say visine or clear eyes kills their high, but to me it makes my high even more enjoyable, because I can see a lot clearer and in focus, and my eyes feel refreshed.

IMO, the real stoners are the ones who can get through the first couple years of smoking without getting arrested, breaking something or someone's neck, and handle their weed consumption in a responsible manner without adding to the negative stoner stereotype.

And everyone knows hash is more expensive than weed. That guy is a troll or a noob, don't indulge him. Ignore him.

man, i am gonna start ranting right now. you CAN NOT OVERDOSE ON MARIJUANA. you can smoke a shitload and get so high that you lie down and close your eyes for a while, ive done this quite a few times. "The term drug overdose (or simply overdose or OD) describes the ingestion or application of a drug or other substance in quantities greater than are recommended or generally practiced. An overdose is widely considered harmful and dangerous as it can result in death."
weed is neither harmful or dangerous and certainly can never kill you. you may smoke too much and throw up, or get retarded and not be able to understand a word that is said but you CANNOT OVERDOSE! get it through your head bro.
you would need to smoke over a pound in 2 hours to "overdose" on weed and you would pass out WAAAAAAAAY before that could be possible. so unless someone is continuously gassing you with herb until you die or become braindead, you wont OD.

Read my post. Weed is more expensive in Europe since the hash is usually cut, and weed is almost never cut because its so obvious there's oregano in the bag. Weed can be laced, but still very rare. And it would only add a few milligrams to the weight.

That is, unless I get some super chron which makes me get up and act like a little kid again. I know I got that good shit when my lungs start tingling (not burning but tingling) after that first hit and I cough like I've never smoked before.

Next thing I know myself and four other people are hot-boxing a little hatchback car out in a wheat field.

Bullshit it isn't addictive. I've seen a kid smoke a bong then literally cry and beg for another an hour later just 'cause he needed another hit so bad. This guy had never tried weed before. Hell, I was basically hooked from my first joint I was giving by a black dude at a party. Why do you think you have been smoking for 'literally 5 years straight'? I'd hate to agree with smoke, but you sir, you are an idiot. something is considered addicting when you crave it and if you dont have it you have withdrawl symptoms. pot is about as addicting as fast food.

Burgers on the brain

Article from New Scientist vol 177 issue 2380. Date: 1 February 2003
Diane Martindale

Can you really get addicted to fast food? The evidence is piling up, and the
lawyers are rubbing their hands. Diane Martindale reports

MIDDLE-AGED janitors rarely make their mark on science. But Caesar Barber
looks like breaking the mould. Last July, Barber, a 56-year-old diabetic and
double heart-attack victim from Brooklyn, sued McDonald's, Burger King, KFC
and Wendy's, claiming that his illnesses were partly their fault. He had
eaten in their restaurants for years, he said, without ever being told that
the food was damaging his health.

Barber's class-action lawsuit was the first volley in a long-awaited legal
assault against the fast-food industry and its role in the obesity epidemic
that is swamping the US health-care system (see "Fat facts"). Inspired by
the success of Big Tobacco, the lawyers behind it believe they can force
fast-food chains to meet their fair share of the enormous cost of caring for
obesity. Pulling the strings is John Banzhaf, of George Washington
University Law School in Washington DC, who masterminded the Big Tobacco
crusade.

That campaign won him plaudits all over the world. But "Big Fat" is a
different matter. To many - including a federal judge who last month
dismissed a similar lawsuit against McDonald's - it seems blatantly absurd.
Surely people who become fat and ill because they have eaten too much fast
food only have themselves to blame?

Perhaps not. New and potentially explosive findings on the biological
effects of fast food suggest that eating yourself into obesity isn't simply
down to a lack of self-control. Some scientists are starting to believe that
bingeing on foods that are excessively high in fat and sugar can cause
changes to your brain and body that make it hard to say no. A few even
believe that the foods can trigger changes that are similar to full-blown
addiction. The research is still at a very early stage, but thanks to Caesar
Barber it is about to be thrust firmly into the limelight.

Taking on the fast-food industry was always going to be a much tougher
assignment than beating the cigarette barons. Tobacco is obviously
addictive. Nobody needs to smoke. And the tobacco companies knew their
products were addictive yet covered it up. None of these accusations can be
levelled at food.

Banzhaf maintains that he can win regardless. He points out that he doesn't
have to prove that the fast-food chains are entirely responsible for
obesity. All he has to do is convince a jury that his clients' health
problems were not entirely their own fault - that the fast-food companies
share the blame. Perhaps, for example, they should have labelled the food to
inform customers of its high calorific value.

Any hint that the food is addictive, though, would make Banzhaf's job a
great deal easier. And he knows it. Banzhaf already says he believes that
fast food has "addictive-like" properties. "We might even discover that it's
possible to become addicted to the all-American meal of burgers and fries,"
he says.

But how can something you need for survival be addictive? The answer could
be in the food itself. The difference between a fast-food meal and a
home-cooked one is the sheer quantity of calories and fat it delivers in one
go. The US Department of Agriculture's recommended daily intake for a normal
adult male is 2800 kilocalories (11,723 kilojoules) and a maximum of 93
grams of fat. A meal at a fast-food outlet - burger, fries, drink and
dessert - can deliver almost all of that in a single sitting (see Diagram).
Biologists are now starting to realise that a binge of these proportions can
trigger physiological changes which mute the hormonal signals that normally
tell you to put down the fork.

In the past decade, researchers have discovered myriad hormones that play a
role in regulating appetite. Under normal conditions these hormones control
eating and help maintain a stable body weight. Leptin, for example, is
continuously secreted by fat cells and its level in the bloodstream
indicates the status of the body's fat reserves. This signal is read by the
hypothalamus, the brain region that coordinates eating behaviour, and taken
as a guideline for keeping reserves stable.

The problem is, people who gain weight develop resistance to leptin's power,
explains Michael Schwartz, an endocrinologist at the University of
Washington in Seattle. "Their brain loses its ability to respond to these
hormones as body fat increases," he says. The fatter they get, and the more
leptin they make, the more insensitive the hypothalamus becomes. Eventually
the hypothalamus interprets the elevated level as normal - and forever after
misreads the drops in leptin caused by weight loss as a starvation warning.

But you don't need to become overweight to perturb your leptin system. The
latest research suggests that it only takes a few fatty meals. In a study
published in December, physiologist Luciano Rossetti of the Albert Einstein
College of Medicine in New York City fed rats a high-fat diet and found that
after just 72 hours the animals had already lost almost all of their ability
to respond to leptin (Diabetes, vol 50, p 2786). The good news, says
Rossetti, is that these changes are reversible. "But the fatter a person
becomes the more resistant they will be to the effects of leptin and the
harder it is to reverse those effects."

Sarah Leibowitz, a neurobiologist at Rockefeller University in New York
City, has more evidence that eating fast food is self-reinforcing. Her
experiments show that exposure to fatty foods may quickly reconfigure the
body's hormonal system to want yet more fat. She has shown that levels of
galanin, a brain peptide that stimulates eating and slows down energy
expenditure, increase in rats when they eat a high-fat diet.

In fact, Leibowitz has found that it only takes one high-fat meal to
stimulate galanin expression in the hypothalamus. When the effects of
galanin are blocked, the animals eat much less fat. "The peptide is itself
responsive to the consumption of fat, which then creates the basis for a
vicious cycle," she says.

What's more, early exposure to fatty food could reconfigure children's
bodies so that they always choose fatty foods. Leibowitz found that when she
fed young rats a high-fat diet, they invariably became obese later in life.
She is still investigating what's going on, but her theory is that an
elevated level of fats called triglycerides in the bloodstream turns on
genes for neuropeptides such as galanin that promote overeating. This
suggests that children fed kids' meals at fast-food restaurants are more
likely to grow up to be burger-scoffing adults.

Rossetti's most recent studies have also found a connection between
triglycerides and food intake. Using a catheter implanted in the brain,
Rossetti delivered lipids directly into the arcuate nucleus - a region of
the hypothalamus - to either normally fed rats or overfed rats, and then
measured their food intake for three days. In the normally fed group the
excess fats curbed food intake by up to 60 per cent. But the overfed rats
just carried on scoffing. What's more, Rossetti discovered that this effect
is not dependent on the composition of the diet, whether high-fat or
high-sugar, but instead depends on the total amount of calories.

Hormonal changes may remove some element of free will, but on its own that
hardly means that fast food is addictive. However, there is another strand
of research that suggests gorging on fat and sugar causes brain changes
normally associated with addictive drugs such as heroin.

It is already well established that food and addiction are closely linked.
Many addiction researchers believe that addictive drugs such as cocaine and
nicotine exert their irresistible pull by hijacking "reward" circuits in the
brain. These circuits evolved to motivate humans to seek healthy rewards
such as food and sex. Eating energy-dense food, for example, triggers the
release of endorphins and enkephalins, the brain's natural opioids, which
stimulate a squirt of dopamine into a structure called the nucleus
accumbens, a tiny cluster of cells in the midbrain. Exactly how this
generates a feeling of reward isn't understood, but it is clear that
addictive substances provide a short cut to it - they all seem to increase
levels of dopamine in the nucleus accumbens. Repeated use of addictive
substances is thought to alter the circuitry in as yet unknown ways.

Sugar junkies

Most of this research has been done with the aim of understanding drug
addiction. But a few researchers are now asking whether the brain's reward
circuits can also be hot-wired by mega-doses of fat and sugar. John Hoebel,
a psychologist at Princeton University in New Jersey, is interested in
whether it is possible to become dependent on the natural opioids released
when you eat a large amount of sugar. Along with a team of physiologists
from the University of the Andes in Mérida, Venezuela, Hoebel recently
showed that rats fed a diet containing 25 per cent sugar are thrown into a
state of anxiety when the sugar is removed. Their symptoms included
chattering teeth and the shakes - similar, he says, to those seen in people
withdrawing from nicotine or morphine. What's more, when Hoebel gave the
rats naloxone, a drug that blocks opioid receptors, he saw a drop in
dopamine levels in the nucleus accumbens, plus an increase in acetylcholine
release. This is the same neurochemical pattern shown by heroin addicts as
they go into opioid withdrawal (Obesity Research, vol 10, p 478). "The
implication is that some animals - and by extension some people - can become
overly dependent on sweet food," says Hoebel. "The brain is getting addicted
to its own opioids as it would morphine or heroin. Drugs give a bigger
effect, but it's essentially the same process."

As yet no one knows how a big hit of fat and sugar compares with a dose of,
say, heroin. But Hoebel says: "Highly palatable foods and highly potent
sexual stimuli are the only stimuli capable of activating the dopamine
system with anywhere near the potency of addictive drugs."

Ann Kelley, a neuroscientist at the University of Wisconsin Medical School
in Madison, has uncovered more evidence that the release of opioids in the
nucleus accumbens tells your brain to keep eating. She found that if rats'
opioid receptors are overstimulated with a synthetic enkephalin, the rats
eat up to six times the amount of fat they normally consume. They also raise
their intake of sweet, salty and alcohol-containing solutions, even when
they are not hungry.

Kelley has also discovered that rats that overindulge in tasty foods show
marked, long-lasting changes in their brain chemistry similar to those
caused by extended use of morphine or heroin. When she looked at the brains
of rats that received highly palatable food for two weeks, she saw a
decrease in gene expression for enkephalin in the nucleus accumbens. "This
says that mere exposure to pleasurable, tasty foods is enough to change gene
expression, and that suggests that you could be addicted to food," says
Kelley.

However, the idea that food is addictive is far from mainstream. And while
many nutritionists think it is a plausible idea that deserves more research,
others are sceptical. Michael Jacobson, executive director of the Center for
Science in the Public Interest, a Washington DC lobby group that focuses on
nutrition, doesn't think the argument will fly. So far, the CSPI has not
seen any evidence that fast food is addictive."Considering the paucity of
evidence, I think the burden is on advocates of the addiction argument to
provide evidence of addictiveness," Jacobson says.

Some practitioners also dispute the idea. There is no reliable evidence that
addiction can account for bingeing and obesity, says Jeanne Randolph, a
psychiatrist at the University of Toronto who specialises exclusively in
treating obese patients. Randolph admits that the behaviour of many of her
patients is remarkably similar to drug cravings: at predictable times of
day, in predictable circumstances, they describe an increasingly intense
drive to obtain their preferred sugary snack or junk food, and afterwards
feel immediate relief and calm. But, she says, you can explain this without
invoking addiction. Fast food, sweets and snacks in which simple sugars
predominate can set up a cycle of instant satiation followed by a plunge in
blood sugar, which leads to a natural desire for another snack."It's a
set-up for a late-afternoon binge rather than an addiction."

The argument has a long way to go. But chances are it won't get the chance
to mature naturally. Some time soon the allegation that fast food is
addictive will be made in court, and once that happens the terms of the
debate are out of the scientists' hands. It won't make for a scholarly
discussion. But it is still a debate worth having.

What constitutes an addiction?

Addictiveness has proved surprisingly hard to define, and there are several
different ways of judging whether a substance is addictive. One of the most
widely used is known as the DSM-IV criteria, devised by the American
Psychiatric Association. To be addictive, a substance has to meet at least
three of the following criteria:

* Taken in larger amounts or over a longer period than intended

When you first started smoking bet you didn't think you'll end up smoking more and more for years did ya?

* Persistent desire or unsuccessful efforts to cut down or control use

Just one more bong man, won't hurt

* A great deal of time spent seeking the substance out, using it or
recovering from its effects

Ever spent time driving to pick up bud or on the phone hunting some down? What about being burnt out, lying on the couch?

* Important social, occupational or recreational activities given up or
reduced because of substance use

Enough said

* Continued use despite knowledge of harmful consequences

Short-term memory loss, lack of motivation, decreased lung capacity. You know these things are associated with marijuana use, yet you still use it.

* Increased tolerance with use

'Nuff said

* Withdrawal symptoms

"Oh man what I would do for a cone right fucking now"

You know, some people are indeed addicted to fast food. You know, because.... the fast food consuming US Population is not Dangerously Overweight Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

sure we all see skinny/fat people in some fast food restaurants.... but once again there are those that have fast food every fucking day.

You sound like a cigarette company.
Or perhaps, something a shrink would tell the parent before prescribing dex-amp to a child.

Cigarettes are mot addictive Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) but simply habit forming, you dont roll around whining in pain, but you sure as fuck want one and get seriously pissed off when you dont have any.

and smoking a dub of dank, and watching 20$ go up in smoke, to get high is not what one expects when they fucking "trip" of the first few times getting high on tiny joints.

so are benzos, alcohol and cigarettes.

yes, but all of those give you a nasty withdrawal period, for example, I smoke pot almost daily, whenever I dont smoke for a day or 2, I'll want to smoke pot, but I wont crave it. I also smoke about a pack a day, and I gotta tell you, If I dont have a cigarette for about 4 or 5 hours I'll start craving one REALLY REALLY badly. It is very different from wanting to smoke pot, If I'm somewhere where I cant smoke pot, I wont crave it, hell I wouldn't even care...

The word "addictive" was first used to describe tobacco and opiate addiction. Before that it didn't exist.

In modern days, the anti-drug propaganda split the word addiction into psychological-addiction and physical-addiction. This was to create confusion, and so they could call marijuana addictive. The word addictive is now used for things not even drug related. Now imagine this scenario: The anti-drug propaganda machine splits the word overdose into psychological overdose and physical overdose. Now they can also say you can overdose on LSD in the form of a bad trip. However, the word overdose has only ever been used to indicate when someone is about to die or dies. This has never happened on LSD!

Again, this arguement stems from confused definitions of words. Marijuana is habit forming, not addictive as by original non-propaganda definitions. By modern definitions taught in schools, it is addictive. However, the pro-drug activists are trying to get that out of the schools, before its to late.

For one:

For two:
Elephants die during LSD testing (disputed) (http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_history4.shtml)
This is interesting. It's disputed whether or not the LSD injection or the Thorazine injection that was later given after the elephant went into status epilepticus (a state of persistent seizure) killed it. Either way, it sounds to me like it falls under "about to die".

and

My point still stands. One overdose on a drug doesn't mean YOU can overdose on it. LSD is not considered toxic. Because of just one death, it would be false information to say LSD causes death. Anti-drug propaganda cannot say you can overdose on LSD. However, if they split the word overdose, they'd be able to say you can overdose on it, then later say you can only mentally overdose on it. Such bullshit, just as with addiction.

I don't laugh at shit, i don't get the munchies, i don't get red eyes and the high just isn't the same anymore.

Ok my question is, if i quit for 6 months will i get that high we all used to love?

Yes you will but it will only last a week and it depends on how much you smoke eventually you will get back your tolerance and it will take more. When I left gay ass santa rosa and went home to humboldt it took me about 2 weeks and smoking became a part of my lifestyle again. I smoke about a half ounce a day now but in the beggining it took me half a gram of b hash to get tore. Also I made a post that got locked where someone asked me how I smoke 5 blunts in the morning Im not daddys girl the answer is I live in northern california where weed is more common than anything and its fun

Thats the lethal dose in tested animals, I believe it is in rats. There's no LD50 known for humans yet, only estimates. But to much of anything will kill you, even water. So since no LD50 is known for humans, LSD is not considered toxic.
