Now she can't be reached, not that I've tried alot. If she doesn't want to talk to me, I won't try to force her to.

But what should I do? She's too young to be fucking around with needles! We're just kids, fuck. She's 17 and I'm younger - just fucking kids. And the worst thing is that she went from weed, shrooms and acid straigth to heroin. No OC's or pills or whatever the fuck other opiates there are, I don't know them.

First of all, she isn't going to stop because you want her to. Period. Second of all, and the main reason I gave you the shitty reply is, LSD, mushrooms, are not hard drugs, and are worlds apart from heroin and the like.

Pressuring her is not going to help. You can either accept that part of her, as long as she is responsible, or at least try and teach her responsible use habits. Be patient and caring, and explain you have her best interest in mind, and will support her etc etc etc.

If she is using needles, make sure she always has a good supply of sterile rigs, plenty of alcohol wipes, clean distilled water, tourniquet, make sure she is shooting properly, knows to rotate veins, there is a lot of shit.

Work on her stopping later, the main thing is to get her to realize the risk, and to minimize it, be GENTLE and frank. Look, I know you won't stop, but I want you safe, so I did some research, etc etc etc and just show her all the shit you looked up BEFORE HAND.

Always always research and have it ready before hand. Know what you are showing her. It sounds a bit biased, but you have a certain goal in mind, and you don't need some idiot saying it's fine to crush a percocet add water and bang it.

Silverballs, its hard to find facts about the percentage of users who become addicts(its usually at either end of the extremes), but I know that I don't want her "weekend warrior" habit turning into an every-day, dopesick all the time when not high, habit. And I don't want her using heroin, period. She doesn't need it - her life is eventful enough and there are plenty of other drugs and plants she could use that don't run the risk of killing her or making a shell out of her. I don't want to look into her eyes and see the emptiness that I see whenever I meet V, who has taken out the maximum amount of loans he can at all the possible banks, maxed out all credit cards, commited fraud(by taking it out in another person's name), doesn't work, and whenever he gets work loses it by stealing from his co-workers.
And intravenous, you might not have any close friends, but when they start to fuck around with things like heroin, they affect your life, too.

EDIT: I admit that I don't know much of the facts. I know very little, actually, but I know that it has been more than a month, maybe two since she first shot up(which was when she was living with a dealer/junkie/don't know who the fuck, but who first gave her the junk), and that she has done it multiple times, since a friend saw her arms and there were multiple punctures, and this person isn't prone to exaggerating or making shit up. Chances are more than anything it's teenage rebellion. If you mean as much to her as she means to you, just tell her straight to stop because you care. If she doesn't, then it's really not your problem. Been in similair situations, and quite a lot of the time it's because they've only seen the negative effects on TV And in drugs education, doesn't really hit home in the same way.

The way to help a friend is not to just let them be. No one said anything about forcing anyone to change their life. But dude is right, 17 is way too young to be messing with heroin and using needles is fucking stupid for any age.

Concentrate more on her, her feelings, and your friendship and stop letting her habit cloud your perception of the above three things. Being young, it's easy for you to get hung up on one thing- her habit. Stupid noob wasn't that far off when he rather a bit to pertly asked you to "grow up."

What you are dealing with my friend, is for the most part, out of your hands. You admitted that you have neither the experience nor the training in dealing with such matters, and without those all the good will in your heart can't do a thing about stopping her habit.

A 17 year old who jumps headfirst into IV heroin as their virgin opiate experience probably isn't smart enough to be trusted to use such a powerful drug in any kind of a safe or responsible manner.

And yeah, it can be done, rarely. But it is possible.

if you really think about it, the people that OD either switch to a different opiate, or take a longer than usual break and misjudge the result of said break....

IMO the big danger is those on opiods with higher affinities that still try to get high on dope while on done/bupe, and finally ditch the done/bupe and still take more to get high...

It is true that a lot of OD's are experienced users. But it's ones who have detoxed or were in jail a while and then go back to the same dose they had before they stopped.

A lot of OD's are also noobs who don't know how much they can handle. I had a friend die the second or third time he used heroin. I know of a lot more like that too.

The long time user who hasn't stopped is in less danger of OD'ing that just about anyone else.

I don't know where you live but here in Massachusetts people can get Narcan nasal spray in case you're with someone and they OD. You simply take the spray and spray it up their nose and it will bring them back unless they're already long dead. But if you go to a local needle exchange they should carry the Narcan nasal spray. I would get it for your friend if I were you just so your friend knows she has some in case of an accidential OD, that way no one gets hurt or dies. Just my opinion.
