I don't think we're wired to have sex longer. I'm sure most guys can blow their load in about 30 seconds once they're inside a woman. We just have the intelligence now to realize that we're not in any danger while we're doing it and we can somewhat control it so of course we're going to want to prolong a positive feeling.

Maybe it's an evolutionary advantage to have a long mating session which helps the two bond together, meaning stronger family bonds (which humans definitely have) and therefore higher survival rate as a rather weak, slow primate

It's also possible that a longer period of sex creates a more relaxed and lubricated area for which our little legends are to swim through.

As a species we've developed to the point where we can control ourselves enough to make it last longer. Fucking for longer periods of time uses up more energy and doesn't really provide any benefits. I read some study in the NY Times about how men are hard-wired to finish quickly for these reasons.
