Re: Any sale or delivery occurring within 1,000 feet of
What is the point of this law Any sale or delivery occurring within 1,000 feet of a school, college, public park, public housing, daycare center, or church is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $10,000?
Just another way to put people away for a longer time.So if you were just at the beach or at your home selling a joint at the beach or your house, you could get up to 15 Years of jail. WTF
I agree with the laws. Each time I see one of those slow ass u-haul delivery trucks on the road it makes me want to cut them off.
That and the orchid sellers on the side of the road.
Ain't nobody selling ANYTHING near my kids!

Re: Any sale or delivery occurring within 1,000 feet of
It's just another way to target minorities.
Ask yourself this: which areas would be the most impacted by these laws? Which areas have a high concentration of schools, public parks, churches, and public housing? Inner cities. I know from living here that there is nowhere in all of downtown Baltimore that is not within 500ft, let alone 1000ft, of one of those things.
And who makes up the largest percentage of inner city residents? Minorities.
So who is going to be doing the most time for drug offenses? Minorities.
Where are the areas least affected by these laws? The (relatively) widely spaced out tracts in suburbia. Who makes up the largest demographic in suburbia? Whites.

Yeah, they probably backed the bill using some glittering generalities about saving America's youth, didn't want to lose out on the bandwagon when other Senators started hopping on and finally they probably cited how teen crack use has decreased significantly while leaving out the studies showing prescription pill use from Mommy's Little Helpers in the medicine cabinet is on the rise.
Cocksuckers. I've seen people dealing crack on playgrounds, outside daycares. Do I see any crack smoking toddlers? No.

I disagree with your view for one reason: bus stops.
It is true that it's impossible not to be in a school zone while in most big cities but the same is true for the burbs because of school bus stops. During school hours bus stops technically become school zones, mainly so school officials can extend their arms of punishment all the way to the bus stop, but this also creates a dilemma for the white (& black/yellow/brown) suburbanites who want their drugs. It's just a law that was aimed at discouraging drug use near schools but now has become to big for its own good. So really it's not a law designed to oppress the inner city minorities but rather a law that oppresses all drug users./

I'm not certain that that applies to the drug use law. I could be wrong on this one. But I know that everywhere I've seen there is always signs announcing that it is a drug free zone and mentions the penalties and such. I've never seen that around bus stops or bus stop zones.

Re: Any sale or delivery occurring within 1,000 feet of

pretty soon a child's house will be a school zone because he does homework there, then all of the rules that supersede; the constitution, state law, federal law, will apply to the child's home.
then selling drugs basically anywhere will be considereed trying to get our youth hooked on illicit addictive substances like crack, smack, heroin, acid and the devil's flower itself. we have to nip this drug problem in the but before it gets out of control.

Personally I just think they should execute anyone who gets caught dealing, even if it's one gram of schwag. I mean why give them the opportunity to move on up to pushing crack and PCP and wasting out tax dollars with their jail time if we can just put them out of their misery and save some lives?

Its just another way of adding another 'strike' to your charges.
