Questions about several states' marijuana laws
I was just browsing NORML and came up with some questions:
1) Why is Oregon so tough on Marijuana growing?
Any manufacture = felony. "Manufacturing any amount of marijuana is a very serious offense. 'Manufacturing' means growing even one plant and packaging, repackaging, labeling or relabeling marijuana. Manufacturing marijuana is a class A felony punishable by a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine."
WTF? I thought the Pacific Northwest was a good place to grow pot. Some cracko's even want to found Ganjastan south of Portland when the government collapses.
2) Wyoming seems to be a great place to grow. Least populated state, climate very similar to Afghanistan (where weed grows well) and any cultivation = misdemeanor with up to 6 months in jail. Googled it and read some cop's statement along the lines of "It's simply not worth it for us to look for outdoor grows here in Wyoming." I have some unused family land out there, totally useless, hours from the nearest town... if I were to grow a fucking field of pot and get caught -- only 6 months in jail!? Sounds like something I should look into.
3) Finally, Alaska seems to be the most American about pot. Legal in small amounts, growing is protected under right to privacy laws (still punishable), but I imagine it's pretty hard to get caught up there. Also, I imagine that if the personalities who live up there work so hard, they play hard as well too. Anyone have some experience on this one?

Re: Questions about several states' marijuana laws
Oregon is probably so hard on cultivation because the state has been having problems with HUGE grow ops in the Federal Parks. People drive out to nowhere in these forests cut down the lower limbs of trees to let in light and plant acres of MJ.

Re: Questions about several states' marijuana laws
Alaska would be way too cold for outdoors, but indoors would probably work great.

Re: Questions about several states' marijuana laws
Alaska isn't too cold for outdoor growing. You wouldn't want to grow when it's freezing obviously but it's not like alaska is constantly frozen. As long as it's above freezing the plants will grow fine, though they may turn purple. Certain strains will do better in alaska of course. Matanuska tundra probably would.

Re: Questions about several states' marijuana laws
Wyoming is currently going through a drought (and has been for some years), and it's so dry that you can really only get crappy-mediocre weed if grown outside.

Oh, see, I forgot about that little bit...
Alaska would actually be pretty good for growing.
Just veg your plants during the summer.

Re: Questions about several states' marijuana laws
I have a buddy that lived in Alaska for a few years. He says that you could drive out to someone's property, and they would have these massive grow ops. You can also do pretty well inside, but it all depends on where you are at in Alaska. Also, Wyoming is fucking awesome as far as population goes. They have something like 1 person per 5 square miles. Temp is actually pretty good, as someone pointed out.
