Depends on what you're referring to by "purple drank"... If you're talking about promethazine/codeine syrup of some sort; than no, by NO MEANS is that safe IN ANY WAY! I PERSONALLY wouldn't even make the suggestion that drinking in combination with Benzos like Xanax is safe. Sure, that combo (as long as it's used with at least some form of brain power) PROBABLY won't kill you. People abuse that combo or similar combos everyday. However, since both can be potentially fatal on their own (kind of), and since they both depress breathing (In combination they synergize to cause even further respiratory depression)... Well... It's just not good. Especially since you should be able to get nice and fucked off of one OR the other (unless you're a drug addict or have ridiculous tolerances…) and not both.
Now, if that's a promethazine and codeine mixture DEFINATELY DON'T ADD IT!!! Promethazine causes drowsiness and discoordination as well as respiratory depression. Now, considering codeine does this as well... as does Xanax... AND alcohol... Well, unless you plan on killing yourself by more or less forgetting to breathe, I wouldn't recommend the combo. On the other hand, if death by respiratory failure is your idea of a good time being "fucked up" then by all means... go right ahead. However, just know that it's a ridiculously fucking retarded idea and anyone who thinks attempting it is a good idea, is CLEARLY a moron and incapable or taking care of themselves in this world; and furthermore should be placed in some kind of full care "home" for mentally disabled people. Because this world is a whole lot tougher then decided whether or not you want to potentially die in a terrible way trying to get "fucked up". Which... I don't understand anyway... But that's a whole different thread.

"Purple drank" is stupid by the way...promethazine is primarily anti-nausea and only potentiates the codeine slightly, and there isn't much codeine to begin with.

Thanks to people like Paul Wall and the rest of the "Chop N' Screw" crowd. It's just marketing, man, and maybe a little placebo. It's got some stuff in it that can get you high, but it's not so strong that it fucks you up like they make it out to in songs.

Yup, it's mostly marketing due to idiot rappers and DJs... Like for instance the person who INVENTED the screwed and chopped technique actually DIED due to that shit... So yeah, it's a lot more dangerous then people give it credit for. ESPECIALY when you're mixing alcohol or other CNS depressants with it. When you say, "Just a cup of purple" you mean like a glass with some in it right? Not like a whole actual literal cup of it? Because if you mean a cup, literally, you will most likely die or end up in a hospital. The more popular this stuff becomes, the more expensive it gets, and the harder it becomes to obtain. Which I don't understand in general.
Codeine sucks fucking balls... for pretty much everything but withdrawal maintenance. Promethazine is MOSTLY an antihistamine I think, doesn't get you high but will make you drowsy and sort of "benadryl’d out" if you understand; which I think is a big NEGATIVE. Alcohol is ok, but SUCKS when mixed with anything. Most drugs are actually incredibly safe on their own, but most any drug mixed with alcohol instantly becomes extremely dangerous. PLUS it effects the GABA receptors in your brain (like Xanax and other Benzos) which actually LOWERS the overall amount of euphoria you'll be able to achieve from the good drug class (opiates/opioids)... So... Drinking actually LOWERS your chances of getting a good high. Xanax, being a Benzo, also affects this area of the brain. Not to mention if you get "fucked up" you won't remember it. And even if you do, it'll just be stumbling around making a douche of yourself. I just don't see the point.
I sometimes hear claims that opiate/opioid and Benzo mixtures are good for the nod. First I'd like to say, the nod is sooooo unbelievably dumb I'm not even going to go into it... You'd think it'd be self-evident that being on the brink of a potentially FATAL OD to the point where you can't even carry a conversation or do any normal day to day stuff, is NOT fun... But whatever... Next, I'd like to say; if you're trying to go for the nod, USE DIFFERENT DRUGS! Opiates are WAY too expensive and potentially hard to obtain to go for that kind of high. Either you use massive amounts by themselves for it (which only costs more money, makes your overall life afterward much more depressing, and raises a physical tolerance. Which, it will do as soon as you dose your first nod sized dose. Then, if you keep doing it, you'll be physically dependant and get sick if you don't take some... Benzos are the same way, except withdrawals from Benzos can KILL YOU! I personally knew someone who died that way...) So it just seems to me, that if you wanted to be in a fucked up stupor, with no ability to function on a normal plane of reality... wouldn't you want to A) Save money B) NOT become physically dependant etc etc etc...
If you REALLY want to be in that state of mind, take like a soma or two and drink a couple beers. I'm sure you'll be slopping all over the place, in a warm probably enjoyable way. I dunno... Maybe this is all just me or whatever... You can and will ultimately do whatever YOU think is the best idea. Nothing I can do to stop you, all I can do is offer you my advice on the situation. But my advice would be NOT to take that combo, NOT to drink “purple drank” AT ALL EVER, and not to take such a large poly-drug mixture. It’s not smart, it’s not safe, and it’ll probably get you fucked over in one way or another (busted at school, busted with the law, busted with family, physically hurt or sick, etc etc.) If you’re truly dead set of this sort of combo, here’s some advice. First, don’t drink purple shiz… It’s crap. If you REALLY have your heart set on codeine (Although I don’t know why you would…) order some pure codeine pills online or run to Canada or Mexico and grab some. They are easy and cheap to get… I found some online in 5 minutes, from a site that legitimately ships and sells and you can even use a CREDIT CARD for god’s sake. (If you’re doing this, I’d steer clear of Tylenol #s or ANY codeine substance with anything else BUT codeine in it. That’s trouble waiting to happen. For example, the mixture of Tylenol and alcohol not only will rape your liver so hard you’d be LUCKY not to end up with some form of damage; but recent studies show that this particular combination leads to bleeding ulcers REALLY quickly. They actually had to recently start adding warnings for that on all Tylenol containing products.) Promethazine is EASILY obtained online or wherever, because to the best of my knowledge it’s perfectly legal by itself. As far as the drinking and Xanax goes… Do one or the other, they’re basically the same shit anyway. Why waste twice the amount of shit to achieve the same effect? Save one or the other for another time and get two experiences out of your stash.
ALSO, make sure Xanax is the Benzo for you. There are LOTS of different Benzos out there, and all of them have different feelings in my opinion. Xanax to me feels much more drunkening, and drowsy. It makes me WAY too tired and sloppy fucked up to enjoy; I also feel it has little anxiety relieving capabilities. I personally enjoy Klonopin. To me the anxiolytic properties of that specific Benzo are UNBELIEVABLE! If you’re having a panic attack or something, pop .5 mg or so and prepare to slowly drift into a mellow calm. Also, I never get NEARLY as tired or drowsy on K-pins… At least at first… OCCASIONALY I’ll get a little sleepy at the end as I come down, but more often I get a boost of energy as I come down. Other people believe that Valium is the ONLY way to go if you’re looking for ANY kind of recreational and/or euphoria. I don’t think it’s nearly as good for anxiety as Klonopin, but better than Xanax. I also find it much more euphoric then Xanax, and not AS drowsy. But it’s also much harder to obtain for most people (Doctors don’t prescribe it NEARLY as much as they used to; especially because of all the other Benzo options out there now.) I dunno… I think I’m sort of going on too long now, so I’m going to stop here.
