Are you a hardass or laid-back?
Which do you think is better, in terms of getting girls and just life in general?
I'd say I'm an inherently laid-back guy, but I'm finding that I'm growing fond of aggressiveness and directness. It legitimately feels good. I notice that most people are pretty passive and quiet about things, but occasionally there's a person that always stands tall and tells people what he wants. There are definitely merits in both...being light-hearted and not taking things seriously is an inherently peaceful and enjoyable lifestyle, but being powerful can also be a rush in and of itself.
What do you think is better?
And the ideal examples of each extreme, IMO: Let's say Jim from The Office (ie. passive, sarcastic, likeable) and Tony Soprano (ie. aggressive, straightforward, authority-figure esque).
There's also some type of middle ground, which is like...loud, obnoxious (in my opinion) young guys that try to be funny, sarcastic, and overly aggressive about everything.
So, which are you, and/or what do you strive to be?

It all depends on what mood I'm in and what personality I am at the time.
Generally.. laid back.
I can employ some confrontational tactics at times though.

Re: Are you a hardass or laid-back?
During my teenage years I was very bitchy. If someone crossed me, there were no second chances, there was no listening to their side, it was fuck off. It was my way or the highway. If someone pissed me off, they were out of my life. The pros to this attitude was no one ever took advantage of me. I've got this alpha-female thing going on so I've never had a lot of girlfriends and my best friends have always been male (that started when I was 14).
Then some shit went down between people I cared about, I started smoking a lot, and I chilled out. WAY out. Too much. My ex would freak out over shit and I was the one who always had to stay calm. He'd low-blow with the insults and I had to treat him like a child throwing a tantrum. By trying to be "adult and mature" I ended up letting him emotionally walk all over me, whereas before his ass would've been grass within a month. After that relationship I realized I was letting others get the best of me by giving them a hundred million chances after fucking me over.
Now I'm trying to find that middle ground. I'm still extremely laid back when it comes to working with my coworkers, I go with the flow. I'm horrible at babysitting, because I've got this "Whatever, dude" attitude. It's not like I don't have opinions, it's just I reserve the passion to stand up for them for more important things rather than going totally ape shit over whether we're eating at PF Changs or Stir Crazy.

Re: Are you a hardass or laid-back?
I'm laid back and it takes alot to piss me off, i don't get angry at little things that arn't worth getting aggressive or angry over, but if its something major and it effects me directly or someone i care about then the 'hardass' comes out and causes mayhem, then i go back to being laid back and not caring about much, controlled aggression, not going fucking mental and losing control of yourself, if you can switch it on and off when you want then you're onto a winner mentally.

I'm both. I'm an asshole but I can be chill unless you piss me off. Like I can be nice to a girl but if she says the wrong thing i'll tell her to go fuck herself. And i'll be nice when people introduce me to their buddies but if their just twats or I don't like em i'll usually end up punching them in the mouth.

When you say hardass you mean like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JMOh-cul6M
I am a laid back guy, but if some comes acting like big shit, trying to show off, and look hard, that pisses me off. And I can't let some body punk me, I just hate when someone tries to make you look like a bitch because they think you won't do anything.
Yeah, but I don't try to act a certain way in front of a girl, if its just a one night thing its ok, but what if you really like the girl and want to stay with her? You have to pretend you are something your not forever or loose a good find. If a girl doesn't like my personality she can fuck off, I don't want to be with anyone that has a problem with the way I am.

I said that's the obnoxious type. There are ways to be tough without being obnoxious and stupid. Like I said, the Tony Soprano character pulls off what I'm talking about pretty well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TgPBivcubU

Totally laid back. I'm one of the most chill guys you'll ever meet. I haven't been in a fight since 5th grade. Been in a few confrontations but that's about it. I don't see the point in fighting with people, doesn't prove a whole lot and actually makes you look like an immature idiot to people who aren't also losers.

Re: Are you a hardass or laid-back?
I am pretty morose and apathetic; which somehow comes off as a cool confidence. I have absolutely no temper, you just can't make me angry. I don't know why, I just really can't be bothered to get upset about pretty much anything, never have seen the point in it.
Of course this lead to games of "lets see if we can piss him off" which left me pretty fucked up in my younger years, I did blow up a few times, nearly killing a kid. But that is kind of expected with "I don't like to talk about it" types.\
Upside being, I generally don't talk a lot unless I actually have something to say; so when I do talk, people listen. Also less than a dozen people have ever heard me raise my voice, so when I do, it scares the shit out of people.
Though some people just assume I am always baked out of my skull.

Was gonna say the same.
If I have a problem with something, I will make it known and work towards a solution. Verbally.
If the verbal route doesn't work, I steam in and do bad things.
Having said that though, I can be a very laid back guy and let a lot of things roll off my back with a simple "Ah, fuck it. Who gives a shit?"
Depends on the situation.

I suppose it's all relative, but regardless of relativity, balance it always the same. Which is why I stressed the importance of it. For instance, just because your asocial and shy doesn't negate the fact that you're laid-back. Some people hold back, but that's doesn't make them laid back, they still intense emotion, so in that respect, it would make them a hard ass, just not outwardly.
What I'm trying to say if you can't really make that assumption just by one referring to themselves as laid back. As far as the cut-throat business I'm in goes, I'm pretty laid back, others might disagree.

i am normally pretty relaxed to the point of not caring but i have my limits like anyone else this used to lead my friends to try and get a rise out of me normally i dont react to it but one guy took it too far (insulting my family is the one thing you do not do) he got woken up by me and my Stihl MS 180 chainsaw at about three in the morning other than that i try to avoid any unnecessary violence (some violence is always necessary)

God, shut uP!
Shut up.
LOL!!!!! Mother fucker posts the same shit as me, right after I quoted it.
No, you shut up!
You are so blah...

Re: Are you a hardass or laid-back?
You get the most girls by being as psychopathic and narcissistic as possible.
This is a fact.

Re: Are you a hardass or laid-back?
No, you shut up!
By the way, I hope you didn't interpret my "Shut up." as a form of agreement. If I were Hitler, I would have had you executed for being obnoxious and missing the point. True story.
People that are asocial and shy usually are nervous in social situations, not legitimately laid-back and relaxed. My point was that someone who was asocial and shy would probably describe themselves as "laid-back" (ie. certainly not aggressive), and I found it lulzy that just about everyone on Totse was describing themselves as laid-back.
But I digress, shut up.

no, passive aggressive is totally indirect...like for instance, you say sure sure to everything someone asks you to do, but you do it really badly on purpose. A direct person would just say fuck off.
