Default redirecting via IE

is there any way to set up an auto redirect for certain websites from the pc?

basically, i want to set it up so that anytime somebody tries to load up facebook on the pc, it will redirect them to whatever other URL i wish.

is this even possible?

cheers in advance guys!

Karni

  1. Press Windows key + R
  2. type "notepad %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts", hit Enter
  3. Press Ctrl+End to go to the end of the file
  4. On a new line, enter the following:
    Code:
    facebook.com otherdomain.com
    or
    Code:
    69.63.176.140 (this is [one of] facebook's IP address[es]) otherurl.com
  5. Ctrl+S to save
  6. Exit

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
facebook.com google.com

i assume there is an amusingly n00bish mistake in there, but i have also tried the second method, and i have added the www. before the URL as well. none of them work

It appears that my Vista will not let me hax it.
When I try to save this it says:

Cannnot create the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.
Make sure that the path and file name are correct.

Holy shit, I'm sorry, man. I got it backwards.

Code:
otherdomain.com facebook.com
or

Code:
127.0.0.1 facebook.com
That's what you need to do. Reverse the entries and all should work.
