Grub question

After upgrading to Hardy Heron, I have found my grub infested with many linux's (14, 16, 17). Can anybody tell me the difference between all these things? And is there any way to get rid of the older ones, whatever they are....

Additionally, I find many "images" in my /boot/ folder. Should I just get rid of the older versions willy nilly or should the be left there?

if you don't want to boot the older kernels then just delete them from menu.lst and save.

You can delete them safely. I usually keep one older kernel so I can go into something I know works if an update breaks anything (or I do).
