Default Mushroom Strain Suggestions?

Any knowledge of the various mushroom strains?

I'm a first time grower and am wondering which types to choose/ what effects they will have. I'm considering Ecuador (know for its introspective trips) and Thai (visual + body-buzz).

I have already checked erowid and shroomery--just wondering if you guys had any suggestions.

*Please don't move to The Great Outdoors: this has to do with drug effects rather than cultivation.

I have Colombians, they are nice, but I don't think strain really matters too much...

B+ is a very forgiving strain, and not as tempermental when it comes to growing as some of its more exotic relatives.

Dude, the strain really doesn't do shit to the trip.

The trip is always going to be the same. Pscilocibin is just that, the different strains don't change anything. It's all about how YOU are, not the mushroom. Set and setting man.

There are differences in yield, potency, etc. But no difference in effects.

Amazonian is good, Creeper is fast, gulfcoast is big and fast, B+ has big yields, etc.

Basically, you can't go wrong...

Unless you buy penis envy, I wouldn't eat those ones.

All of my trips have supposedly been from PEs, what makes them bad?

I find them pretty satisfying.

This man is full of shit and he has never heard of baeocystin, norbaeocystin or aeruginascine, which is present in varying qualities in different strains and is said to heavily affect certain (visual and/or empathogenic) aspects of the trip.

Also, many experienced growers will argue that effects from cyans or azures are way different than effects from cubes.

Also, every trip report of 5-ho-dmt that i have read or heard of states that it is noticeably different trip than any shrooms they have taken. Though I cant speak for myself as i cant get any of that.

My suggestion for strains:
mazatapec - for the contamination resistance
golden teacher - for potency
gulf coast / penis envy 6 - for better yields
cyans/azures - for woodchips/outdoor and braggin rights
any african - for letting me know how it turned out.
p. baeocystis (or semilanceata) - if your feelin adventureous

i have a feelin that by "favorite" they mean "whatever is hard for us to sell and we got the most of at the moment".

Otherwise, sure give them a try, just let us know what their favorites were.

B+.

Usually the cheapest. Always easy to grow. Decent amount of psilocybin. The perfect mushroom!

This. Go on shroomery, their sponsors give special deals to members of the forums. I got 3 syringes of spores, for like $12 shipped or something.

Most cube strains will grow the same. Although Penis Envy, Texans, and Koh Samuii all have traits you can see. They all give fleshier, denser, more potent mushrooms too.

A cube is a cube is a cube. Strains aren't going to give different trips. I could believe that a cyanescen, an azurescen and a cubensis would give slightly different trips, but those are different species. Cubensis really only has psilocin and psilocybin in quantities that are large enough to even speak of.

If anything, pick something based on growth patterns. I found Ecuador to be really, really easy to grow and very potent. B+ was a really fast colonizer, and pins were easy to initiate, but the potency wasn't up to par with other strains I've grown.

Of course, if you just use agar, you don't need to worry about your spore strains, you can just isolate the fastest/strongest growing strain.

So what? Just adjust for potency, by eating more. Even if he only does a few cakes, the psilocybin available in those shrooms, although less potent than the other strains, will still be enough to last him many many trips. My first grow I yielded one ounce, 2 grams. I gave away half, leaving me with 15 grams. I've tripped twice now, in a span of5 months or so, using 5-6 grams total, so I still have enough to last me for a good while. I guess what I'm saying is that although he will yield more on a successful grow on some exotic strain, that's only IF it's sccessful. It's generally the opinion on the shroomery that B+ is the simplest, and most forgiving. Certain strains are more picky about temperatures, humidity, and substrate. B+ has the widest margin of error before it kills the grow, and has the highest success rate among beginners. Therefore I suggest he try the B+, and use the shropomery to get a nice discount.

(I know, that was probably bad, but I'm baked senseless, so bare with me.)

The sex strain doesn't matter that much. B+ will be around the same potency as Golden teachers and those will be the same as burma or keepers creepers. The colonization speed and fruit size are more dependant on the growers technique than on their slight genetic differentiations. They basically just look a little different.
You guys just fell into the commercialism trap.

Of course you guys heard that certain mushrooms are big in size, or that burma colonizes superfast, what kind of salesman would say that their mushrooms are tiny, or even normal sized? Who would buy spores that take 2 months to colonize?
Multispore innoculation results in slow colonization. An experienced grower would isolate strong mycelium from agar, then would knock up a small jar of popcorn and usind distilled water and a glovebox, obtain the mycelium water with a syringe.

For the record, I'll be growing 20 1 pint cakes following the pf tek method. I've already got all the materials except for the spores. Which brings up another question: prints or syringes (I'm guessing this definitely doesn't matter).

Thanks for the advice.

Syringe. Prints are a bitch unless you get them for free.

Yeah, you want syringes. If you get prints, that just means you'll have to get the syringes on your own, and get the spores suspended in a sterile aqueous solution.

Someone I know just did some PF Tek cakes a little bit ago. Started at noon, with all the materials. by about 12:45, the jars were in the pot, being sterilized. In approximately 30 minutes, they'll be done, and hopefully contaminant free. 90 minutes of steaming worked like a charm last time, so hopefully it will this time.

So are you speaking from experience here? I am. I know from my personal trials that Ecuador is a GREAT beginner strain. There were points during colonization where it hit 100 and points where it hit 70. They took off quickly, even with a multispore injection.

I agree that potency will be relatively the same, but there are small differences. I've always been able to tell strains apart (when I grew them, not when I bought them) but I honestly think a lot of it is in my head.

I have also heard of vendors advertising small mushrooms. Mexi-Cubes, for example, are known to be very small. And they are.

To sum it all up, all cubes are gonna be very close to the same potency, depending on the Tek used to grow them. They will have quirks as to how they grow depending on the strain, but 80 degrees F, 100% RH for colonzaition, 70 degrees, 80% humidity for pinning and 70 degrees, 95% humidity for fruiting will work well with ANY cube.

Either would work, but the problem is that you don't know sterile technique yet. Get a syringe for now (look into making a liquid culture, too - much, much better than multispore and saves spores) and look up info on making prints and turning them into syringes while you're growing.

Yes, I speak from many years of experience, and I am not saying that each sex strain doesn't have differences, rather, I am arguing that these minute differences become easily offset by growers technique. The technique doesn't even have to be at a advanced level, all it takes is a thorough reading and perhaps light annotation of the PF-Tek, sterile techniques and contamination files(shroomery). In fact, if a person were to read only the sterile techniques documents, they would overcome the strain differences.

My tip of advice is to not choose a sex strain for it's supposed genetic advantages, and for you to instead choose your sex strain because you like the way it looks. Sex strains in mushrooms are analogous to "race" in people in two ways: the first is that the only significant genetic differences are phenotypical, and second is the wide malapropistic misuse of the terms "sex strain" and "race".

So you're saying that this (http://www.shroomtalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14538)is easy enough for somebody who's never grown a cube? Have you tried to grow these before? I haven't, but from what I understand, they don't tolerate mistakes well.

I was only speaking on behalf of cubensis.

And I'm guessing penis envy 6 is a different strain than the original penis envy, the original I heard has LOW yields.

Every single cubensis I've had or seen has been pretty much the same. But then again, I'm a strong believer in that the trip is mostly up to the person tripping.

Poor decision. You could have purchased one, gotten the golden teacher free, grown both, and traded spore prints on shroomery for either PE, wavies or some p. atlantis.

Low spore yields. I've had very good yields from PE->Popcorn LC-> WBS-> hpoo/straw/coir monotub. One day there was nothing, then, two days later, I peaked and there were about 20-25 large penis shaped mushrooms. PE is slightly different in terms of mating strain "rules" though.
