basically, i split up with my long term girlfriend about 8 months ago. Most of my female friends were friends of hers and so i have few female friends.

i have dated a few girls since my serious ex, but i'm single now and enjoying it thoroughly. My problem is that i dont know any females, and i dont really know where to meet any.

people always suggest bars and clubs, but i have found that unless you are out for a one night stand, you wont succeed in meeting anyone that will give a fuck tomorrow...

Im trying to find places to meet women with a view to friendships (although dating wont be ignored :P) so guys, where do you go that you notice is full of ladies and a sociable atmosphere and ladies, where do you hang out and end up making friends?

Personally I don't like the kind of places that exist purely for socialising. I prefer to socialise while doing something else.

So, join whatever club society you can, ideally the one that is bound to have a good number of females in there. Might want to try dance classes, mixed sports, anything of that sorts. Obviously don't go for any gay activities even if a lot of women are going to be there.

Failing that, pubs/clubs/get a wingman and try out the street.

go to a public place that has stuff that interests you. for example, a book store, or better yet a book cafe. look at people and what they're browsing. makes it easy to start a conversation - "i've read that, it's really good, you might like this..." or "that's terrible, if you want to read about blah, then try..."

Concerts are a great place to meet people. I've been to my share and every other time I meet someone pretty cool.

Just go to a bar and drink by yourself. You're bound to have a girl talk to you. Then, thats when you put your on.
