Depersonalization effects of weed
I stopped marijuana as of 4/21, and have smoked once or twice sense then. The last time I smoked It was like I was over analyzing everything, I had like an anxious feeling and other somewhat negative effects. I used to sell high grade marijuana and I had a lot of free weed so I would smoke everyday habitually; the high was pretty good most of the time, other than occasional paranoia, but that was usually when I smoked alone and even then I sometimes enjoyed the paranoia. With that said, here's my problem; I can't really enjoy marijuana anymore, the 'highs' are predominated with paranoia, fast heart rate and anxiety. It's like the high changed and I don't see it going back. Has anyone experienced this? Should I make an official decision to quit?

"Depersonalization is an 'alteration' in the perception or experience of the self so that one feels 'detached' from, and as if one is an 'outside' observer of, one's mental processes or body.[1] It can be considered desirable, such as in the use of recreational drugs, but it usually refers to the severe form found in anxiety and, in the most intense case, panic attacks. A sufferer feels that he or she has changed and the world has become less real, vague, dreamlike, or lacking in significance. It can sometimes be a rather disturbing experience, since many feel that indeed, they are living in a "dream."

It may be better described as derealization I'm not sure.

I don't see anything wrong with depersonalization myself. It's a trippy effect, and doesn't necessarily come as a result of smoking weed, though you probably already knew that since it looks like you've been reading that other thread on the topic of disassociation. Headshrinkers forum, I think?
It can be disorienting, but only for the duration of the actual state of it. At least to me. If it goes beyond that for you, you might have some more serious problem.
Anyway, it doesn't sound like you're getting much out of your weed experience. I don't smoke it myself, but from what I understand, it's rather spendy. Why go to the expense if you're not getting full enjoyment out of it? That's like paying good money to go somewhere fun and having the shitheads with you ruin the entire trip.

Re: Depersonalization effects of weed
What you describe is not depersonalization, it's just called being high.
So your getting paranoid now and some anxiety, stop if you want to.
Like Iehovah said, why waste your money?
Anyways quiting is up to you not us.
BTW, "Numb" is a great movie about depersonalization and is one of the truest portrayals of a mental illness I have ever seen on film, it's pretty much a true story about a guy with depersonalization disorder and I recommend the film to anyone who thinks it sounds interesting.

Depersonalization might be a strong word for what I experience. The feeling is only for the duration of the marijuana. Perhaps it is just anxiety and nothing more. Although a friend of mine who always seemed pretty normal was diagnosed with derealization. Before he was diagnosed he said "everything seemed unreal or dreamlike" he also blamed marijuana, and compared the feeling to being high- only long after the duration, but he was a new user so idk.

Derealization doesn't sound much like what I experience. I usually have it happen to me when I'm looking in a mirror or am thinking about absolutely nothing. It's a detatchment of the mind, an absolute state of observation. Zero sense of identity, sensory input or feeling. Not a state of unreality, or like a dream, just pure focus of sight as if everything about me had been wiped out except for my eyes. Seeing that I am -there- without a sense of being -here-.
That's what it's like for me, anyway. Kind of disturbing in some aspects because it's like a form of non-existence.

Re: Depersonalization effects of weed
Do you mean like, you get high, then you start to ponder things in your life that are not so good and feel bad about it? Or are you just over analyzing every little thing and becoming paranoid about something happening to you? Because I think I know what you are feeling. Are you just really thinking hard about your life and who you associate with and the things you do and are having weird feelings about that when you are really baked?
Anyway if its that then I don't know what I would recommend. I have felt that before mostly when I'm by myself. Sometimes there really are no ways to get around it. It can really cause you to take a good look at your life sometimes, and other times it can just cause you to worry about pointless shit.

That's pretty much what it is like. Sometimes I will just think about all this shit going on and just trip out; like life, work (or lack of it) college, friends etc. It's usually when I'm alone though. On a different note I noticed my friends and I will get high and everything is cool until the comedown then we just want more, more, more or we will just sit in the back house on a couch and compain about how there is nothing to do and every suggestion for an activity is over analyzed until we decide it is somehow a bad idea or 'not worth it.' In retrospect it seems a lot like the commercials I used to make fun of haha.

You're making the assumption that it's rational thought he's talking about, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Re: Depersonalization effects of weed
Well you have absolutely lost your tolerance, so I would suggest getting that back before you completely write off marijuana. I stopped for 5 months and it definitely took me a while to get back into the swing of things, the first time I smoked after my absence I met up with my dad to go to a movie, and i ended up having a panic attack, or something, and I passed out in the movie theater. I fell to the ground and hit my head, seconds later I woke up, I think I forgot to breath. And my last thought before I went down I thought I was going insane.
My suggestion is just take 1 or 2 puffs and see how you feel. When I started again 2.5 grams of kush lasted me 2 or 3 weeks, just smoking tiny bits at a time and getting ripped off my ass.

Lol thats what I was gonna say at first but I had to put it in an explanation cause I know his thought process he's talking about with this. Its not really a huge deal just kind of annoying sometimes. But yeah no shit thats getting high, you think about weird shit your mind is not is its normal state. Sometimes you just relax and feel happy, sometimes other things happen.

Re: Depersonalization effects of weed
You're probably suffering mild panic attacks. They will probably get worse depending on your ability to cope with the anxiety before you peak. I would guess something is stressing or depressing you, weather you realize it or not. Chill out for a bit, figure out your head, and smoke some mid-grade shit. You'll be fine.

if it's a pleasurable feeling then it's not paranoia. how could you enjoy feeling uncomfortable over something irrational?

It was while I was slanging and I would take it from my high not to trust anyone and follow the rules of the game. I had over 1000$ in cash in my room.

You're a fucking dumbshit. Tolerance is for real dude I used to be able to get high from ONE bowl between 2 people and when I smoked everyday it took at least two if not 3 bowls.

Re: Depersonalization effects of weed
Tolerance is real and effect's most regular smokers.
A good way to avoid it is to not smoke very often and when you do smoke just don't smoke more then you need to. Test around a bit, don't just assume you need to smoke ___ amount to get high.
If you quickly build up to smoking 2 bowls in one session then you're going to build a tolerance a lot faster then you would if you realized you were pretty much hitting your peak high after one, one and a half. Later it might be two, but why waste weed until you really notice you need to smoke a lot more.
