I got caught smoking pot last night by my mom. First time I smoked since 4\20 and I get busted, awesome.

So, my mom has been reasonable so far, but I'm about to go have a second talk about it. I told her its something I do occasionally over breaks not during normal school, and that I never pick up, or drive under the influence. She's concerned that it may affect my drug test in a month for my summer job. I'm not as I am an infrequent user. Does anybody have any experience dealing with parents that are reasonable about it?

My parents are actually being reasonable, my dad used to smoke mad, and my mom tried it a couple times and didn't like it. What should I say to them please help me. Also I'm not going to show them things like NORML studies yet I just want like things I can say.

I don't even smoke much or drink much and I wish there was some way to communicate to my mom that I've got my priorities straight, and I'm completely capable of handling myself and if I ever felt I was losing control I'd tell her.

you got some chill parents man. wait to get a job to burn up again. try to get a job that doesnt drug test or only has an entry test. then they might let you blaze in your room :)

I'm going to generalize here, based on my experience and others with parents.

Most parents' main concerns are: I don't want to see my son on the frontpage of the newspaper, or have to bail him out of jail, or get a phone call from the hospital finding out he got injured/killed, or see him become a low life.

They don't care that you're getting high. Everyone gets high. But don't want to get high with you, or see you getting high, because they love you and just want you to be healthy and happy.

If you absolutely know for sure that you can be responsible with the drugs you use, then that should already be clear to your parents. If they don't understand that, then they probably never will. It's such a taboo subject between parent and child that no amount of explanation can change how they view it. You can talk to them for 5 hours and explain your views rationally, but they will still think the same thing tomorrow that they thought last week about you using drugs.

Even rockstars have upset parents. So, just deal with it.

What you need to do is be like 'OK I'm gonna quit now' then quit for a little bit to make things seem normal. Then when they get less suspicious is when you can start smoking again. Well at that point the only talk I'd had was with my mom well I was very high, not fun. I've had a second one since then, and I've agreed to stop smoking pot out of respect for them. I don't think they really care that I occasionally get high or take any issue with pot, they just feel I should follow the law.

So I'm back to just drinking now and again, whatever.
