Jaw clenching- Non drug related
Hey everyone. My grandmother is having an extremely hard time with jaw clenching, which causes extreme pain and discomfort. I think most of it is to do with stress. I would love to help her in any way I can. She is prescribed 20mg Valium daily to help with this, which doesn't seem to help much at all.
Does anyone happen to have any suggestions of any medications/supplements that could help with jaw clenching/Bruxism? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Jaw clenching- Non drug related
Tell her to try to get a muscle relaxant like cyclobenzaprine. I'm surprised her doctor hasn't thought of that yet. And if shes not telling her doctor that its not working, theres not much he can do to help is there. The flexeril on top of the diazepam should do the trick.. that or knock her out for a while, either way its a win-win

pantothenic acid, magnesium, lavender, and calcium have minor potential, but the use of some sort of object would be much more effective.

TMJ = stress
My jaw locks up sometimes too, sucks.
More valium, and just tell her to relax when she gets jaw pain.

Make sure she isn't drinking coffee/tea (even decaf, still has caffeine, however small amount) or any other stimulant.

Re: Jaw clenching- Non drug related
If she isn't afraid of opiates and is seriously being beat up by the pain then have her go see a PM doc, most of them are sympathetic of TMJ.
