Default What the hell?

LSD also has shown to have therapeutic usefulness. It has
been successful in treating some forms of schizophrenia
(Hoffer, 1970). Another study found notable success in
treating terminally-ill cancer patients: two-thirds of the
subjects showed positive change in anxiety, emotional
tension, psychological isolation, fear of death, and the
amount of pain medication needed (Pahnke et al., 1970).
Studies that have shown LSD useful in treating alcoholism
and other addictions are contradictory and may be
inconclusive. Pahnke's group (1970) reported moderate
success in treating alcoholism, but Ludwig (1970) found
less-than-encouraging results. It's important to note,
though, that both of these studies used vastly different
treatment styles and dosages of the drug.

I thought lsd worsened schizo disorders?

That's true. However, the fact that the positive results were reported with certain dosages and treatment methods, while negative or lack of results were reported with others is significant. It's a tool, and the way we use it determines the outcome.

If you try to scare people into thinking alcohol's bad, that's not going to work too well IMO. If you make them realize that they're ruining their lives, that's much more likely to work, especially given the nature of acid.

It kind of parallels the War on Drugs in a way, because they do the former instead of the latter, trying to pound stupid ridiculous bullshit into our heads to prevent us from trying drugs. When the fact of the matter is using drugs is not a problem, nor is it even dangerous for the most part. Abusing them is. And it's simply put, quite a challenge to not abuse drugs once you get in the habit of using them. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to have drugs, because they can be used in a positive or utilitarian fashion.

Anyway, getting off track there. Acid's real usefulness seems to be that it can give you somewhat of a clear head, breaking you free from the stupid ideas you might get when you are addicted to a drug, and allowing you to look at it from a completely different perspective. But that doesn't guarantee it will free you from the addiction. You would have to actually want to stop for it to happen.

BTW, Molosh, I got lots of lulz from the other acid thread. Troll central.
