Water makes your skin harder to slip against/past other skin IME. Pools/baths, you can do it but it's not easier IMO.
Plus anal in a bath doesn't sound like the easiest way, go ahead and try if you want but I would just use a ton of lube and if you wanted to (I hate this stuff because it will make me numb -See extended pleasure condoms thread) you could get some lube that has benzocaine in it which could help with any pain you are feeling.
The best way to do it that I've found however is just lots of lube, going slow and having my gf know how to actually relax her ass.

I dunno, but it does seem to have that effect. You know when you take a shower how you get "squeaky clean" and sliding your hand down your side, arm, leg or whatever actually makes it "catch" on your skin a couple or so times?
I've had that happen in pools, tubs, hottubs, and the shower (For some reason the shower seems less of an issue.)
That's just my experiences though, it could even be my local water being either to hard or soft. (I think those are the terms :S)
Some people might have a great easy time in places like that but it's never really worked out to well for me.

Well for vaginal sex I've done it in all of the above that I listed, but anal only in a shower. It worked alright, but not as well as in bed with some lube.
I also wonder what position you would take for anal in a bath, I don't doubt that you could find one or more but how comfortable would it be for both parties? Not to mention how much control would you have, that's pretty important for anal.
Pushing water up there shouldn't be too much of an issue since you generally don't come all the way out before you start going back in but it does have that risk I guess, but whats the worst that this could cause from what I would assume would be only a small amount of water.
