Ok so I was texting this girl I haven't hung out with much, but we talk a lot and it seems like we like each other equally. So she was telling me how much she was missing me, and that we need to hang out. Then I kind of told her how I felt about her, and such. Then she asked me do I think she's hot. I said wicked hot girl. Then she asked me what color her eyes were....

I've barely spent any time with her close enough to notice. I always notice color but not this time. I said typed "blue :)" Like meaning I really didn't know. I just assumed they were since she's blonde hair. Then she said "they're brown, but whatever" I started typing "well i guess we haven't been close enough for me to notice" While I was typing that she sent a plain "Bye" I sent my message and didn't hear back.

I haven't talked to her since yesterday because her mom disconnected her phone, and she was on her friends. And she's not on im that much, and I don't know her house number.

But did I mess this up, or what?

Well you shouldn't have even answered a proper eye colour in the first place man.

You should've said "I don't remember, when I'm with you I'm always distracted by how weird your ears/fingers/anything is/are" and then just tease her about that for a while. That's what I learned in hs, you can't win this game by playing it. Even if you answered with her real eye colour, you lose. The only way you can win is by refusing to play her game and playing your own. That is, fuck with her and never give her a straight answer.

It's not because I wasn't paying attention, I was, just to other things like how they moved, they way she blinked, her eyelashes, her eyelids, the pattern in the coloured area (Iris?) and probably the most time would be spent staring into her pupils.
I don't know why but I can get so lost in deep thought when staring into someones pupils. It's like some weird connection.
I will remember all of these things so clearly.

It's already been mentioned above that it is quite common to even stare into a person's eyes for a long time yet not remember their eye color.

I can remember practically every facial expression a person made during a conversation, but I won't remember the exact color of their eyes.

I seldom even remember a person's hair color.
