Default chivalry

is it dead or is it barely clinging to life, day after day, like Castro?

personally, i'm of the opinion that chivalry died when women got rights. we're equals, so unless you're gonna pull out my chair, i'm not doing it for you. i don't understand how girls can still expect chivalry, but still but still throw around phrases like "sexist pig". what do you think, &t?

Exactly.

I don't think any women even expect chivalry in this day and age. They'd be a bit deluded and self-absorbed if they did.

Not to mention, extremely hypocritical.

Meh, I still hold the door open and open the door of the car for my girlfriend, not all the times just some of the time.

But I don't go to great lengths like pulling chairs out. I guess it has died lately, guys are into looking like bad asses instead of being "sensitive"

I wouldn't consider that to have anything to do with it's death.

It was all women. They decided they wanted equality, and so, of course, they consequently decided they didn't want chivalry anymore.

Besides, chivalry was a relatively short-lived concept. It only lasted like, what, a few hundred years? In the greater scheme of things, that's nothing!

It wasn't meant to last.

I don't think that being equal means giving up chivalry. Being a gentleman doesn't have anything to do with this, thats what i think atleast. Also i think most girls could care less about it anymore, they are mostly sluts and could care less.

You bring up a good point, in that it depends on the definition of chivalry and being a gentleman.

To me, anything that involves treating women with any extra respect just because she's a woman, that is what I consider chivalry.

And personally, I think it's a completely antiquated concept.

I generally treat everyone I meet with the same respect, regardless of what's between their legs. :p

Yeah, I try to do the same it is just how i was raised, but i hate when i do something nice for a girl and people are all like "you like her" I'm like wtf are you 4, well that was off topic.

I agree with your definition of chivalry btw, although i do feel that woman deserve more respect then men.

I don't think women expect it, but they do like it. I was brought up very old fashioned in my household. I've been trained to be a gentlemen, and women love to be treated like a lady. Of course, I expect them to be a little slut in the bedroom.

I think this is one of those things like; women not having a problem with sexist or sexual remarks, as long as they're attracted to you.

Yesterday, I said," So are you purposely trying to distract us guys wearing that sexy little tank top? Or was it just accidental?" She just giggled, and said it was damn hot out. The next day, she was wearing a little pink one. If I had been an ogre, I probably would have gotten reprimanded.

The world is funny.

People should help each other out and be nice to one another. It shouldn't be a 'man thing' to hold doors open and pay for dinner.

It's always nice when someone goes out of their way to be helpful, but demanding to be favored while crusading for equal treatment isn't really logical.

Well of course a lot of them like it. I mean, who doesn't like being pampered and treated with extra kindness?

My point was just that they really have no right to expect it.

I mean, I could just start expecting an exact role reversal, and while it would be nice, it's just not very realistic.

And of course, this gets really complicated when interjecting things like evolutionary theory (like we were discussing in that other thread). Because, accordingly, treating women with too much respect will turn them off. You need to find the right balance.

Alot of women dont care, and they may even look down upon it depending if the guy is on his knees serving her the rest of the time.

Ive held doors open and what not but i do not make a special/extra effort. Ill be courteous and hold the door open for anyone thats coming in behind me, but im not acting like a fucking doorman at a 5star hotel. SBL

But ive done the doorman style before, then they usually act flattered and then 9 times out of 10 repeat the favor for me holding the door open same style. So its really a equal favor there.

Women still say shit like that?!

To be honest, if a guy is polite and holds open a door for me, I'm not going to get offended. I'll smile, say thankyou, and walk through. And if it's that weird swingy kind of door then I'll hold it for him.

Courteousy and manners should apply to both sexes.

I was at an induction the other day, a few women and one guy was also there. And the guy allways held doors for the rest of us females when we were traveling throughout this fucking huge building. It was very sweet and such, but I did feel very embarassed.
I dunno.. it was just quite uncomfortable, I felt like I was just using him as a door-opener or something. That and the fact that I think I made a twat out of myself by saying 'thankyou' every single goddamn time it happened.

I don't expect it from men in everyday life because most guys haven't had the right woman to train them properly.. haha.

The two boyfriends I've had both opened my car door for me, but when I got in the car, I'd open their door. Opening doors, picking up stuff when I drop them, making me comfortable when I'm uncomfortable (being cold and turning down the ac or giving me their jacket/shirt or rolling up the windows if my hair's goin' crazy).

But these are things that are mutually beneficial. It's showing that you're mindful and care and enjoy it and it's too bad it's so rare. Do you know how many people in parking lots have commented to my exes after seeing they opened my car door?

Equality has nothing to do with it. Maybe equality in the sense that some women think they can break out of gender roles, but no matter which way you slice it men are superior physically and women take the helm as far as emotions (anyone who argues with that, fuck off, I'm not going to respond). Anyway, you open our jars of pickles and we open your heart. It makes sense for THOSE gender roles to be appreciated and RECOGNIZED EQUALLY. We are two parts that complement each other, neither one is better than the other.

What I'm trying to say is in an egalitarian relationship, chivalry can still exist, albeit not like "Oh poor little helpless me, my hands are too dainty to open that big 'ol door" but just in that it's a nice gesture.

Both of my boyfriends are manly men. One's a fire fighter and the other served in the military from 1999 to 2003. They're not the type to have people take advantage of them and definitely had their ego, but neither one of them had any problems or issues with treating me like their woman whether it be opening my door or slamming me against the wall. :D

I keep chivalry alive. I help people out when the need it. I don't help out the local Sheriff's dept. I call them corrupted pigs.

They shot an innocent man in his home. They raided the wrong house because "the driveway looked the same".....

I wouldn't say chivalry is dead, I'd just say that there are more assholes now.

I try to be as chivalrous as possible. I know if I wasn't, my crazy grandma would be fake-pissed at me and kid me about it. Its just being nice, and while I try to be nice equally across genders, there' s a special place in my heart for those that I'm trying to convince to fuck me.

There was this one girl that absolutely hated it though, and I guess I can see why. Its basically just being patronized to, and an adult doesn't need that.

Eh, holding a door isn't really chivalry, it's being a good person. I don't think it's so much that chivalry is dead, as much as human kindness is a trait that 99% of man kind doesn't seem to remember. I think it's alive in some people. I know there are men who are like "Here don't lift that heavy box young lady." and shit like that, but it just seems that everyone has stopped caring.

Just seeing if the fuck would in fact pour it in the glass for her..most guys wouldnt hesitate to do so. Id pretend to play along..pour the glass then take it and drink it all down then place it back in front of her empty.

Chivalry isn't about equality, it's about being a gentleman. Most men aren't gentlemen. If you're wasted, chances are 7/10 of the guys around you would think about fucking you before caring whether or not you wanted to go home.

Of course, real gentlemen deserve real ladies and in this day and age most women are not proper ladies. Most women usually don't expect men to open doors for them or other old world values, it comes as a shock. Maybe men take their reactions the wrong way, maybe women handle it badly.

Today's world is detatched, chivalry merely aims to reconnect it. I don't think it's dead, just rare and misunderstood.

I think it is something that should be encouraged. It makes both people feel good and it shows that you care. I agree that you don't see it often. When I witness other people doing it it makes me smile and I try to do it whenever I can. I won't go way out of my way but if it's not big deal I don't have a problem with it.

The obvious answer to her demands;" Only if the lady promises to swallow it all to the last drop."

That's how you treat a women like a princess, and then subvert it with a comment insinuating she be your whore, or slut. It's too bad this kind of wit has become rare.
