Cancer
Real Version:
I met a girl about 2 months ago. We met at a party, went to lunch a few weeks later, then to dinner, and a few days after dinner she came over to watch a movie, spent the night, and spent almost every night ever since then. We're pretty crazy about each other.
School ended, and she moved back home for the summer. I have two jobs here at school, so I'm staying here. We're about three hours apart, close enough to still see each other often enough. She's met my parents, as they live about an hour from school and they live right on the beach back home. I've never met hers, though she apparently tells them about me constantly and they're just dying to meet me, she claims.
She recent found out her dad may have cancer. Immediately after telling me this, she told me about how bad she would want me to be there for her if the tests come back positive. To her, that means heading out there. Not really a problem for me, my bosses would all be very understanding about it, and I'm pretty close with the prof of the one and only class I'm taking, I'm sure she'd be forgiving as well.
I am horribly uncomfortable with this. My visiting would be one more thing thrown at her parents, who are already going through a horribly stressful time. The last thing I want to do is make things harder for them, but I so badly want to be there for the girlfriend.
I told her that I'd be there, but I can't make myself impose so far as to stay the night. I'd drive down in the morning, spend the afternoon with her, dinner and maybe at most a game or two of euchre with her parents, and leave.
What do you guys think about this? Am I just overthinking the crap out of things by being so uncomfortable? What would you do? Are there any parents (longshot I know) who could inject an opinion?
Too Long Didn't Read Version:
I've never met my girlfriend's parents, and her dad may have cancer. If he does, she wants me to drive out and be there for her. Is it wrong of me to be uncomfortable about stressing her parents out even more, given that its such a horrible time for them anyway?

Re: Cancer
well its not wrong for you to be uncomfortable with it but you should go with her and if her parents arent comfortable with you there then dont go to the hospital

Re: Cancer
She obviously needs support if you care about her you should give it to her.
I'm sure it will be uncomfortable at first but at one point I'm sure the dad will call you in to have a man to man talk about taking care of his daughter at which point you should feel like you made the right decision.

Re: Cancer
Wow.. at first I thought you were going to reveal to us that the girl you were seeing had cancer but just didn't tell you at first. What a disappointment... *finds somewhere else to be sad*

Re: Cancer
Guy when you get there you will prolly see him and meet him with a hand shake. It's not like the cancer has destroyed him. It seems like he's chilling at the hospital until his evaluation is complete. Just go it will be mad props for you.
O btw fuck all you who kind of burned this thread. Until your in the shoes of someone who has cancer, or is going through some shit go fuck yourselves for real.

Re: Cancer
Just go along and pretend that your girlfriend lied to you about what he was in hospital for. Once you're there you can make awkward jokes about his external hemeroids. That bitch'll never put you in an awkward position like visiting her sick parents AGAIN!

Re: Cancer
Maybe you should ask for a little info on the situation. If they have caught it early then there is probably a good chance of him fully recovering. Maybe the knowledge that he probably won't die will put you at ease a little.
Encourage your girlfriend to be positive, and supporting. If your presence causes your girlfriend to be more secure etc etc the parents will probably have a higher opinion of you.
I have always believed good things come out of these utter shit situations, maybe the bond between you two can be severely strengthened.
