school drug testing
OK, I have to write this bullshit paper for school and I already have what I think are a ton of good points as to why drug testing should not be enforced on students in extra-corricular activities. But incase I am not thinking of any or somone has some genius idea... does anyone care to give opinions of their own, with some sort of argument to support it.... Thanks

Re: school drug testing
OK my bad, this paper is not about steroids, it is about testing for recreational drugs in high-school students participating in extra-corricular activities...steroids arent the topic.

Re: school drug testing
Well there are several reasons. One is the cost and labor of it. It will cost thousands to purchase all the drug test kits. Now I don't know if it will be dipstick or lab, probably dipstick to lower the cost though. Then they will have to call in all the athletes and have them piss which will take a long ass time when they should be practicing their sport or studying or at work or in class or something. It's just a big timewaster.
Also it will discourage the occasional and the every once in a while pot smokers from participating in these activities. I'm sure quite a few athletes do smoke pot and this will decrease the participation. Also they may see it as an invasion of privacy and not enjoy that. It develops a sense where every student is guilty until proven innocent. They will not trust the authorities or respect them with that mentality.
And also what difference does it make if kids in sports do drugs? As long as they aren't bringing them to practice or to school or whatever what is it effecting? And is drug testing the kids going to make them do better at their sports or something because they may not smoke a blunt on friday night? Also will the kids be suspended who come up positive?
Also the people who are more likely to do drugs are those who don't give a fuck about school and don't join any extra activities, so a lot less people would be caught. This is just a way for the schools to try and control students outside lives. Its an unnecessary burden for the staff and students and will ruin the atmosphere of the school.
So you should go along the lines of something like that for your paper. Good luck and hope they don't drug test.

Re: school drug testing
Yeah thanks...Im not any sports or anything like that and I dont think that the kids at my school who are get tested...So its not a worry for me its just an essay for this debate shit that I have to do for class. I was hoping to get the topic of why drugs should or shouldnt be legalized but whatever.
Most of those points you had I had in mind, but now I can refer back to that...When Im writing ill get off on one thing and then forget all the ideas that I had before I went off on the specific topic.....

Re: school drug testing
Infringement on human rights, creates further distrust for educational institutions, even if somebody is caught they likely won't stop, but it will just mean the school and parents will now constantly hound them about it....thus creating a problem where one did not exist.
