Default A very simple concept.

When nobody understands you, it's because you haven't told them enough about yourself.

I like it. I seriously never thought about it like that.

And if they don't ask, then you tell them anyway. You have to make conversation somehow...

The problem is that it's very difficult to get much airtime when the conversation is taking place in a big group. Isolating people for 1-on-1 conversations is tricky, but if you do that you're golden.

easy to forget eh.. its hard when you like somebody but you know they wont like the more complete you.. even if they already like you as a person. being able to function in many groups often requires you to turn many facets of your character on low.

its complicated.. sometimes you have to ease it in or youll be shunned. liking "strange" things.. being highly sexual. being an anarchist. all sorts of crap.

That's also completely valid. I like to ease people into my more personal life, too. Messed up family, etc. etc.

I lol'd.

It's kind of weird trying to talk to my girlfriend about religion, as she is a christian, and I'm atheist. We still make do, even with each others quirks.

This is true. I find life to be more enjoyable when I'm just being me no matter who I am around. It does two things for me:

1. Let's me know what people REALLY think about me.
2. Let's me be happy regardless what they think about me.

But what if then you end up becoming the opposite, and you tell a guy more about yourself and he starts to see you as a narcissistic bitch who loves the sound of your own voice>?

It's a difficult line

I don't think that's what's really being said by the OP. Say for example, you're struggling with a problem but you don't talk to your partner about it due to a self-imposed reason (typically, fear). At this point, you have lost the right to be upset about your partner not understanding what you're going through. It is your fault for not sharing your life with them that they no longer understand your life.
