Goin' South...
So, I leave for the Southern Caribbean June 22 for a 7-day cruise, with a jam-packed itinerary including Dominica, St. Thomas, Barbados, Antigua and more.
Anyway...I fly directly into San Juan, Puerto Rico to board the ship. I've been doing a little research on my own regarding alcohol in these territories.
Many cruise-review sites claim there are abundant liquor stores in and around San Juan/Old San Juan, including a duty-free store about 50 yards from where you board the ship.
I am 20 years old and Puerto Rico's law states 18 as the legal age to drink. I'm very excited to say the least (just the fact that I'll be able to further my r&r on vacation).
Now, I know I'll be able to buy the liquor and stuff it in my carry-on before i board the boat. But my possible problem comes a little later.
My plan was to buy my buddy a few bottles of Captain Morgan and other Puerto Rican rum's as he loves them and will make a perfect birthday present, seeing as how they would be directly from PR itself.
Would I have a problem with flying it back from Puerto Rico to Washington D.C.?
Any previous experience with anything similar in nature or helpful tips/knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Thanks &Totse

Re: Goin' South...
well, if you got caught bringing more than the 1.5 liter back, yea they'll tax you. but sense your not 21, they could very well just confinscate it from you. i doubt you'd get a MIP charge though...
mail it back to him maybe? declare it and pay the tax..

Re: Goin' South...
Check your custom laws.
You can bring some back, but over a certain amount it gets confiscated or you have to pay duty tax or something.
And yes it'd be fine in your moms carry on probably. Might have to put it in the suitcase due to the possibility of the liquid in it being a bomb...

^I read that somewhere too. Something like anything more than 3oz of flammable liquid will be confiscated. God i hope not, that would just suck so bad to go through the effort just to have some custom's man take my shit.
I feel like Arlo Guthrie...
Don't touch my bags if you please

If i went to puerto rico and tried to obtain a certain drug, i'd probablly be lookin for that high-purity coca... if it was prevalent.

Re: Goin' South...
I'm going on a cruise, I'm not going to Puerto Rico just to get rum.
I just found it to be a good gift for my buddy's 21'st birthday and whats a better souvenir from the 'Rum Capital Of the World' than rum.
