Um I think it's just the P. Strofinurum (spelled TOTALLY wrong) type. You can buy the seeds online.

I'm not sure if it'd contain opiates, but it wouldn't hurt to collect some and try it. Just burn a little on foil and see if it smells right first.

Re: All poppies = opium?
ok maybe this is all in my head....and i have been popping vicodins all day, but i smoked about half a pinch hitter full, and seriously, fell like, id how to explain this..i';ve never had good opium, but it feels like a rush of hydrocodone, to the head? really fast?
not sure if this makes sense...
i think this shit is good, but only a tiny bit comes out of the pods, like ok, i make 1 slot and like alot of white shit pours out and then i cut all around the pods and its less each slit...
not sure..but wow, i feel nice...
unless its placebo..and...i really really dont think so...
i'm not some unexperienced drug user (only with opiates)
..but yeah i think this is the good stuff...any idea how to get more out of my pods?

Re: All poppies = opium?
When I found some poppy's ( I have no clue what strain) growing last summer, we made tea out of it, and smoked what we could get, I had no previous experience with opiates, and it made me fall asleep, and when I woke up I was all delirious.

Re: All poppies = opium?
I hear that you can lance them a few times. Just lance once, let it ooze, collect what you can, leave it for a couple days and repeat. When you can't get any more opium, cut the pods and make tea.
This is just a general idea that I've gathered. I have no experience with this, so double check all of this before you take my word.

Re: All poppies = opium?
Well, yes, you smartasses, a test kit would work in this situation. Marquis can also test for opiates. Another possible way would be to do a morphine extraction procedure, and then test that end product. You must be careful since purity is unknown, unless you go balls to the wall nuts and clean the fuck out of it, so be careful and titrate your dosage slowly if you decide to go that route. If you can cop a nice strong opiate buzz on it, and not be all whacked the fuck out (I don't remember what's in the other poppy strains) then fuck it, go with it.
I know you can find out what the other species are, and what alkaloids they contain, I've seen it, you can go look it up yourself. You might want to also compare the physical properties between the alkaloids in say, california poppies, or oriental poppies to the good old somniferum opiate bearing poppies.
Just go find a morphine extraction from opium guide and do it, and test the end product. Hell, got a hamster? There ya go.

Re: All poppies = opium?
As someone else said it's Papaver Somniferum that contains most Opium. I grew some of these last year and got some going now so I'll try and help...
The seed pods of Opium Poppies are a rough sphere, most other poppies have kind of a flat top. The way to get the most opium out is to take a pin and make a load of pricks on it, each time a bubble of liquid will come up, wait for this to dry then scrape it off, you need something really sharp for this... if you do it with a bluntish knife it'll just waste it.
I don't think it would do you any harm doing this with a normal Poppy - some kind of liquid does come out of them too but not sure what it is.
So check what shape the seed pod is (need to wait for petals to fall off and it to dry up for a day or two for best results too) if it is a sphere it is an Opium Poppy.

Re: All poppies = opium?

By your initial description, I'm guessing the california poppy... which is psychoactive, but contains no opiates, incidentally.
...and to answer your other question, yes, lots of plants which aren't even poppies will exude a white latex. Dandelions, for example.

Re: All poppies = opium?
Orange flowers, sounds like californian, which is fairly high in thebaine I seem to recall, but not so in the active opiates found in somniferum and gigantheum. So buy yourself some hydrogen peroxide...

Re: All poppies = opium?
Hey bud, slice the pod..just one line...then wait for most of it to ooze out, then lick that shit up. If you know what opiods feel like you should be able to feel something. I have those orange poppies(not california, orientals see pic below) like that growing all over around me. IMO it contains a bit of something in the opiate family, cause you cant tell me after a good lick off the pod and the inability to stand up straight without leaning on something because most of your body is numb is a placebo effect.
Yea sounds risky/stupid what I did, done it a number of times and never got sick/hospitalized...so it cant be all that harmful(dumb logic but...)
Heres what grows around my area.

Yea, that looks exactly like what is growing ALL around my shed. If anyone knows if those pods contain opium latex please let me know. Thanks a lot.
Does anyone who is experienced with this stuff know if those pods are ready for harvesting?

Re: All poppies = opium?
The one in my pics is oriental poppies. and i swear up and down, someone just slice a pod and lick up the sap and tell me you do not feel anything..they are in full bloom around here looks like its time for a hit and run.....theres no denying an effect.
AND as soon as the flower is shut, and the orange leaves are gone, and the pod is just chilling there(like in my pic the one on the right) You can wait a bit(let it mature a bit) or slice it right then and there cause its ready. Just be carefule cause it is eminent with the brown scratch visible on the poppy head, letting everyone know what u are doing.
Make them O-A capsules mmmmmhmm :-D

Holy shit, anyone who thinks you can get opium from california poppies is a completely useless sack of shit. You can try as hard as you want, but you will NOT get opium for any poppy other than p. somniferum or gigantheum period. Don't even try, faggot.

Re: All poppies = opium?
Lol i dont have california poppies pal, so tell it to the OP. Its part of the papaver family too orientals, not somniferum(sp) but it still contains something
"A few of the varieties, notably the "Norman" and "Przemko" varieties, have "low morphine" content (less than one percent), making them markedly less useful for drug production. Most varieties, however, including those most popular for ornamental use or seed production, have a higher morphine content."

All Poppy plants do contain opium, it's just that some have much more or much less than other strains of the plant.
