Also that multiracial BS creeps me out. I don't have anything against those of the darker persuasion, but when a white dude, black dude, sand-nig and chink hug together for a picture it really creeps me out. That is real racism, getting one of each race together for a photo-op.

i have a severe disrespect for the way the root account is being phased out. NO i do not want to type sudo for every coomand i may as well be clicking that stupid 'do you want to do this' box in vista. secondly giving every dumb user of the system 'sudo' privilages is a one way crack rocket to mars.

root isn't phased out. If you want to do a root shell, run sudo su, sudo -s, or sudo passwd to make a root password, and su to that the way you're used to. If you want to make a user without sudo privs, go to System>Adminstration>Users and Groups, then either make a user with an "Unprivledged" profile
@OP: This is really overdone.
The one major harmful thing I see about Ubuntu is how it refers to everything as /dev/sd* instead of /dev/hd* for ATA and /dev/sd* for sata. A friend of mine killed a drive he wasn't intending on killing using Gentoo because of that.
Using Ubuntu is fine, whether you're an
EXPERT POWERUSER or a noob. The fact that its easy to use Ubuntu for a new user is great, and helps spreading Free Software. The bad part of that is that some people think that the software alone will spread the mindset that needs to come with it.
People switching to GNU/Linux need to switch. They can't keep their old mindsets with them. That's absolutely essential, and while Ubuntu allows for those mindsets to be phased out a bit, the direction they're moving in seems to me to be dangerous.
If you feel its "below you" to use a distro that tries to make things easy, install Slackware and shut up about other people using what they choose to use.
