Do you love your son?
I was recently watching a movie, in which this is the first question asked when the kidnapper calls. And I began thinking, would you pay 2 million to get your son/daughter back? Even if you had no money, could you
pick yourself up to raise the money?

Any child of mine who let themselves get caught can figure their own way out. I did NOT raise them to be shitty ninjas.

Re: Do you love your son?
I don't think my step-dad loves me...
As a matter of fact I know he doesn't.
He wrote it in my birthday card.

Re: Do you love your son?
Not quite the same thing but a few years ago my eldest kid was snatched off the street and bundled into a car by some vigilante. Youngest son came running home to tell me.
Of course I phoned the Police, who turned up in force and set up road blocks etc. However as Youngest couldn't describe the car in question etc it was impossible for them to do much more than that.
But I also phoned Mr. K.
At that time the nastiest local villain I knew.
Within 10 minutes Mr.K had indentified the miscreant and went round to 'have a little chat'. (By this time the guy had already let my kid go...he only wanted to 'scare him').
An hour later the guy turned himself into the police, first having phoned me to apologise and to beg me not to seek further 'retribution' (Mr.K having apparently told him exactly who I am and what I was capable of).
You.do.not.mess.with.my.kids.EVER.
If I had the kind of money that meant people might want to kidnap my kids then I'd make sure that my kids all had top of the range tracking devices surgically implanted. In the case of a kidnapping then my first call would be to a small team I'd have on retainer.

Re: Do you love your son?
My little brother knows i'm into the crime scene where were from and one time he asked me "What would you do if I got kidnapped?" I said "I would give them $500 to not bring you back".
Anyways, the answer is no, I wouldn't pay 2 million to get my kid back, i'd start killing people until I got him or killed everyone responsible. Then I would kill some more people then let the cops shoot me.
:)

Not really, i just have a habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Its probably genetic, one of my ancestors, back in the late 1800's was known as 'Danger Smith' for the same reasons.

Jack, the one part of your story that caught my eye was the fact that you mentioned the kidnapper as a "vigilante". Does this mean that your son happened to be the criminal in this case?

Re: Do you love your son?
I'd say "My son? Lolwut, I don't have a son. Do whatever you like with the guy you've got, I don't give a fuck."
Then they'd realise that they're not getting anything out of it, and then they'd either release the guy (if the intended to release him after I give him the money), or shoot him (if they intended to kill him after I give him the money).
Either way, it's a win.

Re: Do you love your son?
Just for the record, I love my stepson dearly and am honoured that he calls me "dad," and lets me call him son.
That said, the question in our case is moot. He rarely leaves the house, being a full-time caregiver for my semi-invalid wife. No one will even get close to the place without them noticing--thanks to our 70-pound wolf-doberman hybrid, who is VERY protective and who will attack a stranger on sight.
Anyone "lucky" enough to get into the place anyway would be facing my wife's 357 magnum and/or our son's .44 magnum.

Yes, he was commiting the heinous offence of "being a teenager in a public place and wearing a hoody with intent" :P

Re: Do you love your son?
Do not ever expect me to go out of my way to help you you worthless peice of shit. Now get the fuck out of here before I throw another skillet at you.
That is the last thing he said before our relationship went to hell. It has been 8 years since he said that. He never apologized. What he said then was true, and I learned quick at the ripe age of 8 that I had to fend for myself.
I know if I am lucky enough to have a son I won't make the same mistakes he made.

If its your son, I imagine he was some leather jacket wearing, head shaved, cigar biting motor head with a heavy bounty on his neck. God forbid.

What does it cost to raise a child? It would be easier to make another.
