Activated carbon and cannabis smoke.
So, I recently amended my bong with a second chamber, filled with activated carbon. It produces super smooth hits with no noticeable loss in potency. I've done some research but have been unable to conclude what exactly the carbon is filtering from the smoke. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Activated carbon and cannabis smoke.
Take a wild guess. It's filtering out a little of everything. The cannabinoid oils, tar, you name it.

Quality on the pics is terrible.
Quick Question: Does it filter the smell?

Re: Activated carbon and cannabis smoke.
What's the point when you can just use a vaporizer. Unless you're doing it for smell, then I wanna see how it works out. I always if you could do the toliet paper roll method with activated charcoal inside.

Re: Activated carbon and cannabis smoke.
I'm probably not the best person to attest to its odor trapping abilities 'cause I've never just watched someone use it and took notes. And activated carbon in a toilet paper roll is totally different. Maybe I was unclear in the original post, I'm not really talking about trapping odors, I'm talking about smoother hits. Like, really smooth hits. The activated carbon has to interact with the smoke before you inhale, so the toilet paper idea is for another thread.
To Affect: I'm looking for what type of bonding patterns activated carbon follows, I realize it's probably going to react with the myriad of compounds in the smoke, I want to know if it will react with something more than something else.
Also, this cost me ~$25, bong included which beats the shit out of a vaporizer.

Re: Activated carbon and cannabis smoke.
Activated carbon has massive surface area.
This massive surface area allows it to adsorb free-floating molecules and particles, trapping them.
You sir, are a criminal. A criminal in the crime of total noobtastic wasting-of-pot.
Fucking retards.

Re: Activated carbon and cannabis smoke.
Eat it when you're done.
It absorbs just about everything. That's why it's used for that purpose.
