Default L-theanine

I have been reading about L-theanine, it sounds incredibly interesting and beneficial, does anyone have any personal experience with this?
From wikipedia- "Theanine is an amino acid commonly found in tea (infusions of Camellia sinensis). Theanine is related to glutamine, and can cross the blood-brain barrier.[1] Because it can enter the brain, theanine has psychoactive properties.[2] Theanine has been shown to reduce mental and physical stress[3], may produce feelings of relaxation[4] and improves cognition and mood when taken in combination with caffeine.[5]

Theanine is speculated to produce these effects by increasing the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production. Theanine increases brain serotonin, dopamine, GABA levels and has micromolar affinities for AMPA, Kainate and NMDA receptors.[6] It has also been found that injecting spontaneously hypertensive mice with theanine significantly lowered levels of 5-hydroxyindoles in the brain.[7] Researchers also speculate that it may inhibit glutamic acid excitotoxicity.[6] Theanine also promotes alpha wave production in the brain.[2]

Studies on test rats have shown that even repeated, extremely high doses of theanine cause little to no harmful psychological or physical effects.[8] Theanine showed neuroprotective effect in a rat study.[9]

L-theanine may help the body's immune response to infection by boosting the disease-fighting capacity of gamma delta T cells. The study, published in 2003 by the Brigham and Women's Hospital, included a four-week trial with 11 coffee drinkers and 10 tea drinkers, who consumed 600 milliliters of coffee or black tea daily. Blood sample analysis found that the production of anti-bacterial proteins was up to five times higher in the tea-drinkers, an indicator of a stronger immune response.[10]"

I don't know why I havn't heard of this more, it seems like such a beneficial amino acid.

you didnt reall yput much effort into the post... unles u get points for copy and pasting alot.

if my asumption is correct u are asking if you will get high off smoking grren tea.

some people say yes, i personally say no (for me anyway).

i treid smoking it in a ciggerete and a pipe and it was extremly messy, didnt taste that nice and gave me a headache.

if u wanna try it id reccomend u mix something with it like tobacco ro weed simply because of its texture

i think the reason why most people havent "caught onto it" yet is because you cant get high off green tea ok?

I didn't need to put much effort into the post, i'm just asking for anyones personal experience with this or any useful information about it people may have found(and I am talking about l-theanine capsules you can buy, not smoking green tea dumbass).
I just copy and pasted from wikipedia to show all the stuff that makes it sound like it has potential, whether it is preloading to enhance certain drugs, as a daily supplement for better mood, to mix with caffeine to improve cognition and mood, etc. Sorry, i'm not looking for 'points' for making an informative thread, i'm looking for other peoples information so I can gain more knowledge on this as finding information on this on the internet seems rather limited.

It'd be easier to get GABA pills and make them into GLB/GHB.

Fixed.

Oh, hey... thanks for reminding me. It'd been long enough since I'd researched theanine that I'd forgotten to consider it in the anioxylitic brainstorm I did, oh... half a year to a year ago, 'n much like Mg, it also has wonderful neurotoxicity inhibition in the nucleus accumbens, with all the associated effects.

Of course...

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17182482
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9614715

...one obstacle is that there is currently some debate as to whether l-theanine raises or lowers neuronal serotonin levels. While this wouldn't neccesarily be a bar to exploratory/recreational use as a mild sedative and mood-enhancer, and is utterly irrelevant to its effects on the immune system... leveraging a revolution in consciousness by microengineering the neurochemistry of the masses is something that cannot be properly performed using l-theanine until this is resolved.

...but thanks for reminding me of old research. ;) I hate it when I forget stuff.

Hey JP, do you know if there is any type of concoction you could make with theanine that might make it convert into dopamine/serotonin/GABA more easily, such as the whole DLPA thing. Do you think this would be beneficial at all if added to the whole DLPA thing? Also, do you happen to know anything that could be added to GABA supplements that might do that same thing? Or do you have a concoction that might work GABA? Thanks.

I picked up a bottle of theanine+GABA caps at a local health food store last week. It doesn't get me high, not that I was expecting it to. It does a good job of chilling me out without making me drowsy or unfocused.

It doesn't convert; the molecule as is is the receptor-active species.

...eating on an empty stomach with a spot of glucose probably wouldn't hurt, though.

Do you think this would be beneficial at all if added to the whole DLPA thing?

Possibly if staggered, but otherwise they'll just compete for intake into the brain.

Also, do you happen to know anything that could be added to GABA supplements that might do that same thing?

Similarly, GABA is the end-agonist. Of course, near-toxic amounts of b6 and the sort of crippling zinc deficiency which leads one's skin to fall off could keep it locked in as GHB, but it's probably not worth it.

Hops 'n valerian also come to mind.

Or do you have a concoction that might work GABA? Thanks.

Increased dopamine, increased glutamate, increased b6.
