Ok, I was at a gathering tonight, and my best friend of nearly 8 years texts me, and she has just broken up with a short term boyfriend. It was the type of "oh my gawd this relationship is soo perfect!" relationship.

Well, looks like it wasn't - and she sends me a message going:
"you wanna come over tomorrow? ;)"

And I reply:
"Sure thing.."
Not expecting much to happen. Maybe catch up on stuff, hang out and play on the Wii (as per usual)

and all of a sudden she sends one back, going:
"well I broke up with *****, and I really miss you - you know, there are times where I really wanted to kiss you"

Yeah, what the fuck? She's like, 16, lives down the road from me and all of a sudden this comes out? I mean, I have a soft spot for her and have (yes ok, wanked over her once), but still - it's a bit of a shocker.

Anyone know what I could do? I'm 17, nearly 18 and she is 16. I don't want to fuck up our friendship as our families are good friends.

Maybe I should just tell her to leave it for a bit as she has just got out of a short, boring relationship - and so the feeling for "someone and something" subsides. Then there is no risk.

You are her rebound. It'll ruin your friendship most likely if you do anything with her. You might as well just go for it, though. It's a one time offer.

That's exactly what I thought it was.
I'll see her tomorrow and have a talk with her - she'll probably get all emotional, but I would hate for this friendship to get fucked up. I've got with other friends for one night things and they were fine - but I value this one too much.

Anyway, I had a similar situation. There was this girl I was friends with for a very long time and I'd always had kind of a secret crush on her. I didn't want to tell her because I thought it would change our friendship. I wrote her a letter explaining everything but pussied out and didn't give it to her. Then I went away for college. When I came back for break, I finally made a move, and the (physical) reaction I got was "why the FUCK didn't you do this earlier!!". We're still friends, but I'm in a relationship now so no funny business with her this summer. I wonder if it would've turned out differently if I didn't move away. Hm, probably.
