Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
Well considering weed is a plant, a plant that you can grow.
I doubt that the government can get its hands on even half the amount of weed that is dealt around. There is just to much.

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
1stly i do not acuse the "government" of doing anything....they are bulky, contradicting, and inefficient....
normal fertilizers and improper growing techniques that favor yield and speed as opposed to quality are where the danger primarily is at.
And you fail to provide evidence that some fertilizers contain these metals? or which growing techniques involve heavy metals?

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
But this only occurs when the plant comes in contact with heavy metals?
Doesn't this mean that hydro shit is safer then the stuff that, say, grows naturally from the ground?
The hydro has a controlled growing environment, with only specific growing enhancers, which to my knowledge do not contain any heavy metals.

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
kind of an off topic thought... if a cigarette company or whoever wanted to were to grow tobacco carefully with hydroponics letting only a negligible amount of radioactive isotopes to be absorbed by the plant, could they make a cancer free cigarette? the tar and everything would still fuck your lungs a bit in the end but its not the tar that gives you the cancer, its the radioactive isotopes... and i imagine it would be some good tobacco if it was grown with hydroponics... i imagine this would be ridiculously expensive though...

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
Doesen't combustion of anything create all sorts of byproducts? I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's probably negligible compared to the toxicity of city living.

combustion doesnt create anything other than co2 and water, anything else was already in the plant.

You are so wrong. That is complete combustion. Incomplete combustion gives you CO and other impurities.

the point i was making was that you wouldnt get heavy metals from just burning. your right tho.

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
Perhaps JP, or SN can shed some light on this.
Unfortunately I fear that they have smoked their last joints, and have fallen victim to heavy metal toxicity.
If only they had drank the cilantro juice in time ... :(

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
1.) I can't find any sources stating strontium is a byproduct of marijuana smoke. That website the text in the initial post is from is taken from some crack-pot-hippie-better-living site, backed by no scientific/medical evidence.
2.) OK sure, mj soaks up heavy metals. Plants have amazing properties. Rub some aloe vera on your vagina and it cures Syphilis. :) But just because it has the ability to hold heavy metals doesn't mean it does, or comes pre-loaded with strontium.
3.) It doesn't make sense to talk about 'weed safety' in the context of growing. Regardless if you go hydro/soil or organic/chem 'nutes - you control the growing environment. You determine what goes into the plant. Taking proper care of your plants determines if you have good smoke or not - not the growing method.

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
And it looks like cilantro extract really could help if such toxicity were to occur:
I thus decided to try the first batch of cilantro on myself. The results were dramatic: my brain felt like it was "spewing." Sorry, I can't find a better word. On a purely physical level, I felt tingling sensations. In my dreams, I saw spurting, like an ink jet printer. My hair started to feel like it was coated with something awful and the smell was ghastly.
The tingling sensations lasted about five days and then subsided markedly. However, I had some muscle cramps so decided to add trace minerals and seaweed to my regime. I was also extremely careful to drink a lot of fluids, including my own delicious tea that I made to support lymphatic drainage. During the first two weeks, my skin felt like it was coated with slime. I took baths in Epsom salts and found an oil slick on the surface of the water and residue on the tub that looked like gray sand, exactly what yet another dentist told me to expect. He said his wife actually had little dots percolating up through her skin that looked like tiny beads.

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
Have you even read any of the links, or typed anything into Google yourself?
Jenkins you know squat-diddly-shit!
I could give less of a crap about you....i was hoping someone with some knowledge could take a look at this.
Perhaps JP, or SN can shed some light on this.
I lulz.
No, i guess I'm not like 80% of bltc who don't actually know anything, they just google the question and make it up from there.
That makes you part of that 80%.

In the US, heavy metals can be present in our "hard" tap water, pretty much all the time.

Re: Alpha radiation and heavy metals in your MJ
two things. all plants absorb heavy metals.
and, if the government/terrorist orgainization were to bite the hand that feeds them [ie: fuck with the drug trade] they'd of already done it. fuck anthrax in the mail, anthrax in the coke would of dropped millions...
this is borderline conspiracey theory's though. not all radiation is harmful. more than likely smoking pot in 1986 was more dangerous than prior and now.

Err, that leaves no room for smart people who actually know something, but i guess you don't have to worry about that.
