Arrow A note on criticism.

I have encountered two types of people that generally piss me off when it comes to attitudes toward writing: 1) those who think anyone can write and therefore those who actually do write well haven't made a lick of effort at the endeavor; and 2) those who believe writing is a pointless, narcissistic practice devoid of any social or cultural value in the long-run.

Concerning the former attitude: if you believe that anyone with half a brain can write well, then by all means do so. If it's such an effortless thing to do, you should have no problem writing the next great novel--or even getting published in a reputable fashion at all. Unfortunately, the truth is that writing most definitely is a difficult thing to do well, regardless of your supposed genius that encompasses all worldly things, and takes a lot of practice and self-criticism to improve. Writing is like any other worthy endeavor: it takes massive amounts of labor to do well, and even then you're likely not doing it well enough. It's a skill that has to be honed over a lifetime.

Concerning the latter attitude: almost any experience you have, apart from the tactile world, is directly shaped by writers. Any television program, song, book, news snippet, political speech, movie, video game and so on is ultimately reliant upon a writer or a collection thereof at some point in production. Writers, when it is all said and done, forge cultural values in a literate society--though granted writers are subject to the social and political constraints of their time and place. Writers shape all media experienced by you or anyone else, which is profoundly important; they simply disappear into the background noise of the product at which they labored. In short, tell them 'go fuck yourself' and keep working at it!

Here here.

I am wondering, though, if this might not be better suited in B&M. I'm not saying it doesn't belong here - it most certainly does. I'm thinking, though, that it might be good for more people to see this too.

Perhaps moved with a perm redirect here? What do you think King Cotton? How about you OP?

What part of literary creative expression didn't you understand? Besides, you'd be better off asking in Printed Matter. You even said yourself you were unsure if it was appropriate for this forum.

You are dipshit. If it wasn't fitting why did you lock it and not move it?

What part of putting unique ideas and concepts down on paper is not creative expression?

I like how you quoted your forums description...how about I do the same for Printed Matter?

Books, Magazines, and Newpapers. What you read and why you read it. Favorite authors, magazines you read, recommendations for future reading, unusual books and where to purchase them, and sources of strange mail.
Uhhh yes, nice little blurbs that clearly categorize my thread

You're nothing more than a useless piece of shit who can't conduct a simple task. In fact all you had to do was leave it open so the hoardes of users that come here could ignore it - way to abuse your power asshole. If it were me I'd already have a half dozen morons jumping on my back (although in a case like this they wouldn't be morons). You have the luxury of being somewhere noone will observe your idiocy.

Meta mods here now and does important things like changes the forum name so it's more pleasing to the eye for people scrolling past the forum home to your crap, maybe you should fuck off

I suggested Printed Matter because people there might have more experience dealing with that sort of thing. I didn't say it was the right forum, but it might be a better one.

There's no need for you to become so bellicose over such a trivial matter.
