Well, I finally acquired some.

It's black, like resin from my pipe, but way more solid (less sticky, etc). Anyway, I'm sure you know what it is, or can help based on this.

We tried smoking it in a pipe with some weed, felt pretty relaxed and good. I was considering the "incense" method where you light it on fire, blow it out, let it fill a cup, etc...

What would you suggest with what I have, how much should I smoke? etc.. What kind of activities benefit to doing it?

Any dangers?

About a pea sized ball, squished flat onto either tobacco or a some bud in a pipe.

You'll get two maybe three out of that chunk and depending on how good it is you'll probably need atleast 2 for a good high.

Some kind of fragrance... I don't know, but it's really sweet, like a pleasing, alluring, sweet smell.

Do need ot smoke it with bud? Is it appreciable alone? I'd like that first, really. I just decided to try this method:

stick some under a cup and light it, blow it out, let it smoke into the cup, pull with straw.. got twocupfulls like that... I have 3.5 g, so plenty to mess with....

Is morphine appreciable on it's own...

That's why i said tobacco, it's just the best and easiest way in my opinion.

It does sound like you got real opium, as opposed to heroin. :)

How would one tell? Honestly, tonight I've smoked so much pot and had some drinks.. it's hard to tell with the whole haze over my mind what's in it. So I'm going to try it tomorrow when fresh minded... by it self (or with tobacco) and see what I can see... sight? :P

does opium turn black after a while? i was under the impression that laytex opium is always white or tan and that anyone selling "black opium" was just trying to pass off tar heroin.

Once you slice the pod a white goo comes out, if you were to watch it, it'd go from white to tan and finally a brown/black colour and i believe refined opium is always more of a black colour.

It changes colour because of something reacting with the air

The best way to tell if it's opium or heroin on the fly is the smell.

This stuff smells "clean". It looks, upon close inspection (or "ripping" a piece off), to be small little brown fabrics all interwoven together.

My friend also got some yellow crystal opium (same guy, 120/q whereas this black was 90/q - we don't know prices), anyone familiar with this and the difference?

Also, I keep hearing from people you're "supposed to smoke this with weed". It's damn Opium, it's not enjoyable on its own? x-p

Honestly, I don't know what it was. That's what it was sold to him as, along with this. Both "types" of opium, one "better" (the crystal).

It was yellow crystals, small, when heated melted and smoked. Strange looking stuff - any idea what it is then?

Think those qualities mixed together, sort of. Is what it kind of looked like.

At first I was rather disaffected with it.

But I find after further consideration, I quite like it. I think this stuff is weaker in nature, but I really enjoy the effects.

nothing. you can smoke the laytex right off the plant.

or you can filter it and make "cooked" opium which is just removing a lot of the extra shit in the laytex.

Well if by "filtering" you mean refining latex (not laytex ffs) then the reasons are multiple:
- reduces the product to more potent extract (weight/volume wise)
- changes the nature of the high since the morphine+codeine ratio is greatly increased in relation to papaverine, thebaine, narcotine, and all the other minior alkaloids that are believed to make opium high so different than pure pharmaceutical morphine/codeine combination.
-Its a middle step in the morphine extraction process.

Raw opium collected from the poppy as described above is placed in an open cooking pot of boiling water. This should dissolve all of the alkaloids in the opium, while solid plant material, soil, twigs, etc. remain undissolved and float to the top of the solution. Solid impurities are scooped out or filtered by straining the mixture though cheesecloth or burlap. The liquid is then re-heated over a low flame, evaporating the water to leave behind a thick, dark paste, which is then dried in the sun. The opium left behind has a putty-like consistency and is generally about 20% lighter (20% more pure) than the raw material. At this point the product may be exported for smoking or eating or consumed locally. This process may be carried out by farmers before shipping for consumption or further processing, or the raw opium may be transported to heroin manufacturing sites where the preparation is undertaken on a larger scale.

If you have a decent ph/tds meter your might as go extra few steps and produce some morphine hcl / calcium morphineate, unless you pref. plain opium. I know i do.

EDIT: i just read that quote from erowid, and noticed some mistakes in that procedure, so replace all instances of "BOILING" with "SIMMERING" and "DRIED IN SUN with "DRIED WITH A FAN IN DARK WARM PLACE". we wouldnt want to hurt our friendly 'loids :)
