So uhh, for what reasons do you figure marijuana is still 'bad' ?
No no, I'm serious.
I want to know why you consider the laws to still be as they stand.
And please if it's so blantantly obvious please don't point that fact out, explain why.
What purpose does it serve, incriminating a person for intoxicating themselves with a little cannabis?
It's been thrown around a lot how it costs money enforcing this law and the price of housing prisoners guilty of such a dastardly offence. I'm sure, too, that the cost of a criminal record and the ability to obtain a job has been factored in by someone at some stage.
We often question why...Why is pot 'bad' and illegal when we can obtain all the alcohol and tobacco we desire to well and truly fuck ourselves up?
So long as we aren't under the influence whilst at work or driving under the influence what's the big deal?
Sure we will be told by dictator policy makers that it could make a person lose focus on the direction of their life, or it onsets mental illness but couldn't you...advertise these risks? Inform people and let them make their own decision? Oh wait they kinda do considering the stuff is everywhere...
I really cannot see the point of holding these laws but to have something to hold over the common people, keep drug pigs in work and uhh...have a substance which would be worthless legally, a valuable resource so certain people can recieve payments?
It's like a way of seeing what people do as they are told and who don't for someones master plan.
Tell me more.
If I had the power I'd regulate it, rules that seem sensible to me like age restrictions, not being allowed to drive under the influence/work and other stipulations close to that of tobacco laws.

Re: So uhh, for what reasons do you figure marijuana is still 'bad' ?
The government/media can't exactly just stand up and admit that for the past few decades have been straight up lying about marijuana. The legalization of pot is going to be a long, gradual process which will start to kick in when my generation starts getting into positions of political power. Until then sit back and toke away from the police. Or move to a country with laws that suit your tastes better if it's that important to you.
Keep in mind that the legalization of Alcohol wasn't too quick or easy but in time it happened.

I forgot the fact they won't tarnish their pride.
I'm not a smoker I just don't like this stupid law and the consequences of it.
I'm still not sure of my stance on different drugs but I'm damn sure about marijuana.

Well, some people would prefer to believe that its a giant conspiracy tied in with many other aspects of society to keep the masses believing they are enslaved.
Other people believe its purposeless. Its just mass ignorance resulting from a series of unfortunate and coincidental events. Why did we burn people for being witches? Cause we were ignorant.
But heres something to remember. Pot is real. The laws against it are imaginary.

If it was legalized it would probably hurt alcohol and cigarette manufacturers a lot. Just another reason why it's not legalized.

I would say "you are in prison for an imaginary reason".
Sure it sucks. But the only reason a pot smoker gets thrown in jail is because someone else believes that they have the right to put them in there. Children's games for adults.

Why do stoners always say this, stop smoking so much fucking weed and think for yourself instead of using your dealer's thought processes.
I will not stop smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol if marijuana was legalized. I would not smoke less cigarettes or drink less alcohol if marijuana was legalized. In fact, I would SMOKE MOAR CIGARETES AND DRINK MOAR ALCOHOL if marijuana was legalized.
I'm sure many would agree.

Re: So uhh, for what reasons do you figure marijuana is still 'bad' ?
Dude.
The government doesn't do what it does because it's "best for you" all the time.
Cannabis happens to be illegal and there are a shit ton of people standing against it because of a long-lasting stigma attached to it, which leads to not researching/knowing about it and the cycle continues.
As it stands now, having it illegal isn't a problem for the government..
Most other countries stand by them in the decision, they employ ALOT of people to fight it, and there isn't that big of an opposition to its illegalization. I mean, really, most adults wouldn't dream of touching the stuff. The people who use marijuana aren't important to the government.
From the nigga on the corner with a blunt to the dreads-having white guy in Portland taking slow bong rips of Cali Bud.....
It's just not the greatest demographic that admits he smokes weed. Jobs could be lost here people. It's not gonna work out for a long while, and don't count on fucking buying weed over the counter in your lifetime. This country is run by the jews.......... decriminalization is the best hope, and seriously it's probably better for us all given we don't have to smoke pesticidal processed weed with the stems and seeds all crushed up in there and manufactured..

No sir. You say if it it was legalized you'd drink more, smoke more and smoke weed. Lucky you. But what about those millions of people who are sitting around on a Friday night with $40 in their pocket and the option of getting weed, alcohol, tobacco instead of just tobacco and alcohol.
Legalization of pot will give a vast number of people who previously were unable to acquire marijuana with the same ease that they could alcohol that choice. That = loss of money for such companies.

Weed makes you lazy, forgetful, and stupider...
But it also makes you happy, cures nausea, and has a lot of other good uses.
Its not the weed, its the people that give it a bad image, and almost anyone that hasn't been living in a cave knows the stoner stereotype

And yes, stoners should just be killed, they're so fuckin' retarded, and if weed being illegal means less stoners, then hell, I'm quite happy for it to continue being illegal.
Not to mention people get lung cancer by mixing it with tobacco, in fact inhaling any burning plant matter isn't good for you [now to pre-empt the "OMFG GOD DUDE DON'T YOU KNOW MARIHUANA CURES LUNG CANCER"].
There is a link between pot users and mental health, whether weed causes it, weed just makes it wose, or people with mental health problems use weed to help them, nobody knows [now to pre-empt the "OMG DUDE YOU ARE SUCH AN IDIOT. In short; keep weed illegal.... but legalise ketamine.

Another reason (one of the many) that it has not been legalised is that it provides a lot of political ammo. Whoever tries to legalise it is going to be politically assraped by their adversaries who will brand them an incompetent addict etc... it just isn't a vote winner. however many sensible people there are who want it legalised, there are probably more who would vote against it. Also, I don't have any statistics on what percentage of stoners vote, but I would imagine it's not that high (no pun intended).

Well what would we do with the witches if we didn't kill them? I'm certainly glad there are no more witches.
Weed is illegal because the majority of Americans are against legalization and the government is a reflection of the people. majority rules minority rights. The reason Americans are adverse to marijuana is due to many years of demonization.
Although I feel like Alcohol and Tobacco lobbyists have something to do with it :)

I don't agree with rednecks like you usually but I don't agree with teenagers sitting around doing nothing but smoking pot and curing the munchies and listening to rap music, thinking they're cool, etc.
That's why it's important to legalize it so that people can be better educated about it and stop abusing it.
A good example I read somewhere is a kid that sees their peers who smoke marijuana making better grades than them, so then they may start to think that even methamphetamine is a good idea if the government lied about marijuana.
High grade extracts, vaporizers, cannabis food, etc, would solve the "it damages lungs" problem. (It doesn't actually do that much damage anyway, evidenced by the many athletes that use it with ridiculously healthy lungs)..... As for it damaging the brain, it's been shown to promote brain cell growth in certain areas of the brain. There hasn't been any unbiased or legitimate study which has shown it to damage the brain. (That I'm aware of.)
Certain chemicals in it will destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors, even sending cancer into remission. Smoking it, no it obviously won't cure cancer but the extracts of certain chemicals can be useful in treating cancer patients.
It can be psychologically addictive. Easily. It often is but this would be easier to treat if it were legal. People tend to think they can't be addicted because the government lies about it.... Higher grade cannabis can be more addictive but it's not going to be more difficult to treat than addiction to lower grade cannabis. It should be easier to treat due to it being easier to get a consistent quality and potency... People under age 21 should not be able to buy it if it's legal unless for medical purposes and naturally some still will, but less than if it's illegal because they'll be better educated about it and it won't be as cool.
Cannabis helps a lot of people study, concentrate, focus. Certain people of course, not everyone. Different people have different reactions to drugs.
Same thing with mental illness, yes it can trigger it and make it worse, yes it can also help mental illness for some people. I also know it's unlikely to trigger it for the majority of people. Incorrect use and misinformation are what is most likely to trigger a psychotic episode or mental illness.
Certain strains and grades of cannabis will be unlikely to make someone lazy if used correctly. Average weed is likely to make people lazy because of how it's grown and shipped and sometimes due to its genetics.
Despite the common elitist snobbery and ignorance, it will be legalized eventually.

Re: So uhh, for what reasons do you figure marijuana is still 'bad' ?

They could leave you alone and the dealers/growers alone as well.
Allowing the consumer side to be 'decriminalized', while keeping the rest of the market illegal is not very good for the market.
In some possible decriminalization scenarios, the penalties for illegal acts (growing, dealing) actually become harsher.
This would force the market to change. While we, the consumers are fine, demand would go up. But as the penalties for the illegal acts increase, the number of non-crime related people willing to risk those penalties goes down.
This would increase the opportunity for organized crime to take over the market, in place of mom and pop grows. This would at first decrease supply, which would raise prices for you and me, and it would also decrease quality, as organized crime will try to increase productivity with lots of commercial-quality weed.
Eventually supply and demand would reach a balance again, but the end result is more commercial-quality weed and more organized crime connected to the weed market. This is bad for everyone.
Full legalization would avoid that.

Re: So uhh, for what reasons do you figure marijuana is still 'bad' ?
OMG if the government didn't make things that are bad for me illegal i don't know what i would do. I would need to go around eating unsaturated fat, and smoking marijuana.
The reason is that people want to be protected by the government, but the government only does a half ass job and leaves it to the people to do the rest. IE. making guns harder to get really only hurts people. Alcohol is legal but if you get poisoned its your fault, but pot is illegal. People are too content with the way things are, most people dont smoke weed, but drink alcohol and still maintain anti-drug values. They have been lied to and this has made them completely content.

Of course it causes kundalini to descend, because your head, and third eye is in a fog. not to mention the typical mindset created by weed is that of a first or second chakra nature, and certainly not transcending the heart chakra.
by the way, long time no speak, Rizzo. hello to everyone else in BLTC!!

that's true, but I find that if one is sufficiently "stable" at the lower chakras (especially if one has their will activated/open/whatever), weed can allow you to open up yr heart very easily. especially if you take a walk, or run, or do anything like that.
and I dunno what you mean but putting yr third eye in a fog because it always opened it up for me, sometimes way too much. high weirdness (pardon the pun) can be too much sometimes...naw, what am I saying? it never got weird enough for me!
but either way I'm not using drugs anymore (or at least, that's the plan....lol...you know how it goes), and I don't think you can really spiritually progress and still take drugs.

Re: So uhh, for what reasons do you figure marijuana is still 'bad' ?
Well, all things considered, the United States upper class is still recovering from the racism of the 1920's. We still feel the same way about mexican americans and black people (who have not managed intense class transience.) So, many carry that stigma through to politics, even though they have no proof of the effects (but they do have lots of money and power.)
Furthermore, it'd be much harder to tax. Tobacco is pretty hard to grow in the united states, and alchohol requires a relatively complicated fermentation technique. Thanks to these variables, they are enabled for taxation and the government draws mass revenue. Marijuana, however, is capable of being grown in virtually any environment. Because of these economic implications, many are hesitant to adopt marijuanna as a legal US drug.
Now, think of it from a business standpoint.
Many pharmaceutical companies sell "asprin" or variants of the headache medicine as a major cash crop. Marijuana, being the wonderful drug that it is, works as a "cure all" for relatively minor conditions. It also induces hunger in cancer patients (another cash crop of pharmaceutical companies.)
So, where are we? Marijuana is bad from a governmental, pharmaceutical, and social veiwpoint. It's not being legalized anytime soon.

Okay. I has a theory, and it goes something like this - it's because if you have a dime-sack, and I merely accuse you of intending to break it up into two five-sacks, I can put your money into my pocket, your car in my driveway, and my clothes in your closet. Err... "the closet in the house formerly known as yours," that is.
It's been thrown around a lot how it costs money enforcing this law
Yes, and someone gets that cost as their wage - not to mention dibs on everything stolen.
and the price of housing prisoners guilty of such a dastardly offence.
...and someone gets those guard jobs, the construction jobs for more prisons because the existing ones are full of minor potsmokers, and the like - and other people get sub-minimum-wage labor en masse courtesy of "prisoner rehabilitation programs."
Wanna take bets on the correctional workers' union's stance on drug legalization?

This.
Okay. I has a theory, and it goes something like this - it's because if you have a dime-sack, and I merely accuse you of intending to break it up into two five-sacks, I can put your money into my pocket, your car in my driveway, and my clothes in your closet. Until then sit back and toke away from the police. Or move to a country with laws that suit your tastes better if it's that important to you.
Keep in mind that the legalization of Alcohol wasn't too quick or easy but in time it happened.

Alcohol has been used for a very long time, like thousands of years. If you are talking about prohibition of alc it actually was pretty brief and didn't take much time to be lifted again.

Everybody and there mother would try or would grow their own personal stashes and there is a difference between grown for distribution and growing for personal consumption/use. Oraganized crime would have no opportunity to take over the market because oraganized crime pretty much owns the whole market. I think the market would stay the same as it was if weed were decriminalized. There is alot of comercial weed already flowing in this and into the US but we also have alot of high grade weed to. Since weed would be decriminalized, all of the funds and tax dollars used from light marijuana related offenses(like possesion) can be used on other things. Also all the tax dollars used to imprison marijuana offenders will more room for worse offenders and financial resources could be used for something else. However, I think more police and government focus would be put on other more "harder drugs," and demand for other drugs would go up from the relocated police and govermental resources affecting the "hard drug" market.
