| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

The Firefox guide to getting into the IRC Channel.
Step 1.) Installation.
Click this link, then click the Add to Firefox button to install the add-on.
A software installation window will appear. Click on the Install Now button when it finishes counting down.
The software will begin downloading, and will appear in an Add-Ons popup window. Click on the Restart Firefox button when it is finished installing.
Step 2.) Setting Up
When firefox opens back up, click on Tools in the upper toolbar, then click ChatZilla.
When it loads, click on the *client* tab at the lower left part of the window. In the main frame, you'll notice a list of Available Networks that are displayed as links. Click on slashnet.
A new slashnet tab has appeared! Now, go to the upper toolbar and click On ChatZilla, then Preferences...
Select irc.slashnet.org in the left side panel. Under the General tab, look for the Identification section. Fill it in as follows:
Enter your username under the Description, Nickname, Nickname (away), and Username sections. Thenk click OK to close the Preferences window.
Step 3.) Registering a username
Click on the Slashnet tab at the bottom to open the Slashnet server window. Then enter the following into the text input box...
/nick [nickname]
replacing [nickname], without the brackets, with the same name you entered into the preferences window. This will change the alias you're currently using into one of your choice.
Once you've done this, enter the following
/ns register [password] [email]
replacing [password], without the brackets, with a password of your choice, and [email], without the brackets, with an email that you currently use.
Once you've done this, check your email inbox. You should have recieved an automated confirmation letter from Slashnet with more instructions. You should get a message which has something that looks like this:
/msg Nickserv AUTH 123456789
Take that and enter it into slashnet. Your nick is now registered!
Click on ChatZilla and open the Preferences menu. Click on Slashnet and open the Lists tab.
Under Auto-perform, click the Add... button. Add the following:
/ns identify [password]
replacing [password], without the brackets, with the password you chose earlier.
Then click OK to close the Preferences tab.
In slashnet, enter the following:
/ns identify [password]
replacing [password], without the brackets, with the password you have chosen.
Step 4.) Joining the chat.
In slashnet, enter the following:
/ns ajoin #gamenet
Then, enter the following.
/j #gamenet
Once this is done, you will be in the channel.
You have finished! Now, when you open ChatZilla, you will automatically begin connecting to Slashnet. Then, you will automatically be identified, then you will automatically join #gamenet. Ergo, opening ChatZilla will take you straight to the channel.
If you have any questions, post them here. :]
See you in the channel!

Re: The Firefox guide to getting into the IRC Channel.
Naah. It just turns out that a lot of people who signed up for the SSBB tournament dont know how to get into the channel. I figure if thats the case, more people would have issues as well, so here's a quick and dirty. :]

Re: The Firefox guide to getting into the IRC Channel.
Thanks for the guide, XiP.
I tried using an appalet that would allow me to access IRC in IE (no firefox at work) but it wouldn't allow me to register my nick (said the two emails I provided [both valid] were of incorrect syntax) and wouldn't let me join the server without a registered nick. *tears out hair*
But that's just whining. Well written guide, mate.
