UK - Cannabis to be reformed... again...
So I heard that Brown wants to reform the reform. In short, they want to bump Cannabis up from class C to B in the not too distant future.
Does anyone have any info. on the subject - dates for the reform, whether it's been past, how likely it is?
Also, if this does happen, hypothetically, what would be the outcome: higher prices? What's a likely sentence for possession/dealing? etc...
On a totally unrelated note: anyone fancy doing a Guy Fawkes (without being hung, drawn, and quartered, of course!)?
Edit: cunts.

No. It just means it applies to UK citizens. You can still comment, but with something constructive, please.
If you actually read my thread, you'd have notices this: 'if this does happen, hypothetically, what would be the outcome: higher prices? What's a likely sentence for possession/dealing? etc...' - you can still reply to that, if you wish. And, truthfully, I am interested in what you've got to say.
Now, sorry to digress, let's not let this turn into a flame war.

Re: UK - Cannabis to be reformed... again...
This whole debate has been juggled time and time again within UK government. So I really don't know whether that fuck ugly shit will get what he wants.
I will actually laugh at anyone who tries to sell at higher prices if it turns to B, though.

According to the Daily Express today, 'kids are buying weed with their pocket money and are able to get enough for 15 joints with £10'. Go figure.

I wish I got 15 joints for £10.
But yea, now he's calling cannabis "lethal", he's just infuriating to listen to. I feel like going to Downing Street just to protest outside the front gates because he's an incompetent little nooblet and should stand down as PM.

Re: UK - Cannabis to be reformed... again...
About 6 months ago Gordon Brown asked the ACMD, about 20 experts to take a third look at whether it is in the right classification or not. They've now finished their report and concluded it should stay as a class C. This is the third time in recent years they've been asked to do this and this is the third time they've come to this conclusion.
The report hasn't been published in full yet but one of the things it mentions is that there is no evidence that cannabis use causes psychosis.
Clearly this isn't the result Brown hoped for and he intends to ignore the advice he's been given and move it back up to class B.

Re: UK - Cannabis to be reformed... again...
Not like it really matters, it's still illegal. Big shock coming here from BC, along with all the other stupid fucking laws in the UK.
I almost shit when someone told me it's perfectly legal to perform a "stop and search" without any reason for police.
Also, offensive weapons? WTF?! If someone is running after me with a knife I would rather spray them with some bearmace then have to resort to grabbing the biggest knife from my kitchen and wearing a stab proof vest just to walk around without having to worry too much.
And the CCTV!?!?!?!? Don't even get me started.
And they take DNA AND fingerprints on EVERY arrest?
I'm goin back to fuckin Canada. Jesus!

I'm hung in the pants department.
Is cannabis even a big problem/issue in the UK? I'd suggest they 'tackle' the apparant (am I wrong...never!) alcohol problem instead.

Re: UK - Cannabis to be reformed... again...
I don't give a shit what class it is, it wont make a difference to me smoking it or how much I pay for it...
Government can play with the classification as much as they like, its not going to make any difference in who smokes it, how many people smoke it or what they think about smoking it.
Did you ever here somebody say "oh noesss cant smoke that its class B now"
It will make little difference to smokers or prices and just makes the government look like they are doing something.

What it will do is bring more serious charges/penalties against those caught for possession or trafficking.

But I thought the price would go up, since there'd be more risk growing it/getting it into the country. If the growers/importers bump their prices up, the repercussions could be felt even on the 8th...
Just a thought. Someone prove me wrong!

Yes but that will not effect who or how many people smoke it which is what the goverment thinks it will do. De-criminalisation had no effect on demographics and re-criminalisation wont either.

Prices have actually gone UP since "de-criminalisation" or whatever the fuck it was they did.
Either way in the last 4 years I have seen a pretty hefty increace in price as well as a drop in quality. As it is dealers are trying to push the price up despite the fact that the market is flooded with this "cannabis factory" weed and availability is higher than iv ever seen. I don't think that dealers can really get away with putting the prices up any more than they already have. I know a lot of people paying £25s on the 8th and such but the dealers could never get away with putting it up any more in the next few years. Personally, if someone told me they were charging £25s on the 8th I would go find another dealer... don't fund the fuckers that put the prices up/sell poor quality/under weighed bags and they will learn not to fuck around.
The quality of weed and prices in this country is already shit and re-classification will make no difference to the smoker/dealer/grower outside of the court rooms.
Whatever happens this wont be something I will be discussing over a spliff with my friends because until I get caught, it makes absolutely no difference to me.

It should make a difference to you, at the moment if you're caught with weed you won't be arrested, and after this change you will be.

Still, the police force have got far bigger fish to fry. Where I live there's a pretty large smack and crack problem that seems to increase every year. Even if the law did change, I can't see your average cop busting every stoner he sees puffing away; when you factor in all the paper work and police time that would waste, you begin to see why.
Sure, you'll get your arseholes, but, then, you do now anyways.

Yeah most of the police don't really care if its small amounts and you are minding your own business not causing trouble... If I get arrested, shit happens most aren't going to bother doing me for possession of <3g (which is all I usually have on me if I go out.)

I was caught smoking in Trafalgar Square while it was class B and the officers didn't really give a shit, they just told me to smoke it in a private property. They've got bigger problems to deal with than people who've smoked a joint.

Central London's not too smart, though. I know people who've been right royally fucking in the arse by police for what you did.
There are simply places you just can't do it. Still, glad you got away with it, though. They're more harsh on under-18s, I understand.

well, take into account most people in the UK mix their bud with tobacco, as opposed to america and other places. So therefore around 7 joints worth of weed, This may be possible but they would have to be smoking GOOD bud and it would have to grind up REALLY well and weigh next to nothing. Take into account that in poorer areas a joint may be absolutely tiny as well. I'm not defending them its just not that bad of a figure, Just for knowledge i tend to get 2-4 joints from £10 ($20) of weed.

Naa... I usually put .5g in a spliff - that's a medium sized one that most people will probably be used too. £10 gets you 1.5g to 1.7g.
I highly doubt you'd get more than 5 spilffs at most, though!

brown is out man. the blues are in, they have more seats in parlament then anyone, maybe they will vote against it just to be a cunt.
dont think it will have much affect for a few months, then it will start to get harder and harder to get hash, then the price will quadruple for weed, and then you will die.

brown's just pissed 'cos "teflon" tony got out at the right time and left all the shit for him.
but yeh, this is stupid... basically the main reason I have no faith in our political system (or anyone's, for that matter)... it's all about what makes you look the best / will get you votes.
like others have said though, it doesn't really affect me (us?) too much... if you get done for possession (at least with a small/moderate amount) you are probably either stupid or just very unlucky. I have never been searched by the fuzz because I keep my head down and don't get myself into stupid situations.
But still, yeh... cunts.

I agree, but that doesn't mean it causes psychosis, and strangely a lot of people claim it does help deal with the symptoms of psychosis, whether or not it's helping those people in the long run though is a different matter.
